We have had one hospital birth and three homebirths. The midwife visits Baby and me to check us both on the first day, third day and at two weeks. She does the second heel prick test and checks for jaundice. I usually take the baby in for a "well-check" sometime in the next few months just to get a file started and all the paperwork filled in. After that, we only go on an as needed basis, as we do not vaccinate. My 15 month old has not been to the Dr since that first visit, but now our beloved fam doc has moved away, so I suppose we will need to start over.

Babies are born at home, and we take 'em in at 2 weeks to meet the ped, then only when we need to after that. For a few of my children, they have NEVER been to the doctor!

Hi,
I am new here but I happen to have the odd opinion that this is just the perfect thing to offer up. I have five small children and take them to the doctor frequently because my 5 year old has a kidney transplant and needs to go see a doctor at least monthly. We have learned to cope with it and it doesn't faze my kids because I don't allow it. I do feel that your doctor is a bit aggressive. Our schedule is 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4, 6, 9, 12,15, and 18 months. With our premature twins -9 weeks early and one in end stage renal failure that went in every week for 15 months but that was because Joshua was very very ill.
Hope you aren't offended but this is one those perfect small little things to give back to God.
Holly

I just scanned posts, so if this is a repeat, I apologize.
Just wanted to mention a book that I like called, "How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor" by Dr. Robert Mendleshon. This man was a pediatrition for 30 years. What I really like about the book is that he tells you when he thinks you should take them in. This book has come in handy around here several times.
God bless,

By the way, I have had 3 hospital births and 2 homebirths. I don't take them anymore. We used to goto a homeopathic chiropractor who happened to be the mother of 9 children. But we moved. I am in search of an alternative doctor around here just in case. Also, I have not had any newborns since we moved.
