Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was 6 lbs. at birth

My babies were:

#1 6 lbs. 5 oz. (girl) 38.5 weeks
#2 8 lbs. 11 oz (boy) 40.0 weeks
#3 7 lbs. 9 oz. (girl) 40 weeks
#4 8 lbs. 5 oz. (boy) 39 weeks

I am small 5' 2" and while these boys are not huge by medical standards (macrosomia), they are too big for me. The last three children were born at home and all three stuck. The two boys presented with real-no-doubt-about-it shoulder dystocias. The kind that make the midwife start praying and knock ten years off of Daddy's life while he's witnessing.

My dh and I spent a great deal of time praying for direction as to the best place to deliver baby #5 (due in February). We decided in the end, that our midwife has the best skill set to deliver what may very likely be a baby with a wedged shoulder of all of the providers available to us. I'm still a bit uneasy.

Please pray for us.

Kathleen

It is interesting that there isn't a sure fire way, IYKWIM. From your replies, it looks like the biggest factor may be heredity. I honestly don't think I'll be having 8-10lb babies no matter how well I eat, but maaaybe protein would help.    I was hesitant to ask because I thought there was a way everyone knew except me and I better get back to reading the "What to Expect When Your Expecting" book.

Kathleen, you have my prayers.
I'm very uneasy about this delivery. Not for baby, but for me. So uneasy I've considered writing letters to each of my children in case something happens to me. I just can't shake this feeling. I may start a new thread about it once I gather my thoughts.

Michaela,

Have you read any of Dr. Brewer's work? There is a website here that may be helpful to you.

Dawn
