Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My sister on the other hand tries to live as self-suffiently as possible and I think that's great. What bugs me is how she makes my other sister and I feel as though we are "less than" because we don't. Yes I BUY my milk (often straight from an Amish dairy farm) and she gets hers from milking a goat. I fail to see the difference there but she swears her way is superior - OK whatever! LOL!

God bless,

I hear what you are saying, Michelle though I am on the other side of the fence so to speak. Because we try to live a self-sufficent lifestyle (not totally, but when and where we can) other hs mothers assume I think they are "less than". I am trying to live MY dreams out, if their dream is a home in a suburban area, wonderful! I have learned some helpful ideas with the Simple Elegance series you all are doing. I discovered I was a little "too functional" and my home could use some beauty in addition to dirt.

This issue has been hurtful and sore spot for me and I see it along the same lines as the "Gestapo Mom" problem within the H/S community. We have been told we are "backwards", we have been scoffed at for our choice and made fun of, etc. It still stings. This is where I am happy, content, this is what is familiar to me, this is where and how I chose to raise my children. Good, holy, Catholic citizens will be needed in all corners of the world, this is mine. For all who share it with me, great, if your choice is town, city, whatever, great, glorify God where He has led you.

This is said in charity, I hope it is received that way.

Having grown up with very little "from scratch" (at least once my mom went back to work), I am in HEAVEN learning how to do everything from scratch from my mother- and grandmother-in-law. I tease dh about how spoiled he is ...

The Gooseberry Patch books are favorites of mine, with so many creative cooking and crafting ideas for each season!

I love doing everything from canning to baking to creating new recipes to handwork and sewing things for myself and the kids and the house, and I was never even allowed to take home-ec!

I'm also loving that our grocery bill is getting smaller with our farm market's growth. We have our own eggs and beef and in-season produce ...I've asked dh for a big new freezer for Christmas because we've run out of room for any more canning jars! My idea of "really neat" would be to have an old-fashioned cellar.

I'd love to learn to make my own soaps and candles, but I think I'll have to wait until the next "season" in my life for that! And yes, all my sisters think I'm crazy to do things from scratch, but they sure do love to eat when they come over here!

Oh Maddie I'm sorry to hear this. Well it seems it goes both ways huh?
