Dear Dawn,
So sorry to hear the extent of your sufferings and Bill's. There is nothing worse than not knowing what is wrong - this is obviously been a agonizing time. I hope now that with a correct diagnosis things will dramatically improve for Bill and you all. We will be keeping your family in our prayers over here.

Dawn, so pleased they caught the diagnosis early.
Praying!
ETA: Just tried to PM you, box is full
I wanted to encourage you to be aggressive with his treatment. After a week on orals, I received a sub-clavical IV for 6 weeks, I barely remember this time period (mine settled neurologically, ) but things I do remember are:
take lots of vitamins,
eat tons of yogurt,
be nice to your home health nurse since she's the one holding the sharp instruments.

So glad to hear there has been a diagnosis. My daughter had Lymes a few years ago and it was like pulling teeth to get them to test. Lymes should be a routine test IMO. I count 9 people I know that had Lymes!
Prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

Thank you, thank you everyone, for your prayers and loving thoughts! I apologize profusely for my full PM box - I've just cleared it out.
Donna Marie, I would love to hear about the natural remedies. I've heard from a few people now who say the antibiotics did not clear it up for them. It really is a scary and mysterious disease.
Jennifer, I don't think I knew you had it before! It sounds like you had quite a time with it. I will pass on your wise advice to dh.

Dawn, I'm so happy you have a diagnosis, but darn it what took them so long, especially when you were so concerned right at the get-go? |

Yes, that's a very good question, Jenn. To think they originally told Bill to wait 7-10 days to see if the swelling subsided! It was his boss, actually, who insisted he demand a referral to an orthodpedic specialist (at that time we were still thinking injury). And it was *that* doctor who ran the lyme test (not his primary) and chased down the tests over last weekend. Bill called me on my cell phone at the Fair to tell me the results and ask me to pick up his antibiotics on the way home. That's how quickly they moved once they knew.

Jenn, how kind you are to say those things. To tell you the truth, the blogging was the one little getaway I allowed myself - of course, often that was at 2 a.m.!

I was reminising with dh last night about the mean home health nurse

and dh stopped me and quite nicely put his hand on my arm and said - "Jennifer, she was retaping the pic line. All she did was remove the tape and put new on."
Well.
I've never been very good with band-aid removal either.
Your husband will be in my prayers daily, Dawn!

Dawn, give your whole family a pat on the back from our family! The stamina and tenacity it takes in these types of situations is heroic. May God bless you and keep you and supply you with all you need through this difficult time.
Love,

Stef, thank you so much for asking. Bill is continuing to feel better every day. We have been surprised by how long it seems to be taking, though! He is still on antibiotics, but he is off the anti-inflammatory meds. His knee has returned to its normal size!
While things are much improved from how they were, Bill still gets wiped out very easily. I know it's frustrating to him. Yesterday he worked on our fireplace mantle - and he worked for a few straight hours. I was surprised he was able to do it. He was really tired afterward, but I know he felt good to accomplish this project.
Stef, I continue to pray for your husband's recovery too! We are so blessed by these men.

Dawn,
I'm so sorry that you've all had to endure this! And I'm sorry I didn't come here and read it until now. The Lord has been speaking to me about being more devoted to pray for those I love, one place of which is here on these boards.
Please know that your dh is in my prayers for his continued recovery from a difficult time! I'm sure it takes awhile! I was once tested for Lyme Disease, and thankfully, it wasn't it. But I would have never even thought of that as a possiblity at the time.
You're a wonderful and devoted wife, and your dh is blessed to have you.

Dawn, I just saw this, too. Sounds like it's been a terrible roller coaster ride for you, glad they have the diagnosis and you all can commence with the treatment. One of my friends has Lyme (and it took YEARS for them to diagnose it for her), and after her own roller coaster ride with diagnosis and treatment, is doing very well, thank God. Hang in there. You all will stay in our prayers!
