Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Katherine,
that would be so exciting! You have a LOT of faith! and so much to share. I'm in awe of anyone who is able to do this (like Mother Teresa, just going where God called her, with Faith and not much else, and look what happened!)

I hope you didn't think I was being critical of going abroad (or even out of state,) to act as a missionary- - if people don't go, who will do these acts of love?

I will pray for your family while you are waiting to hear word. Keep us posted, please!

God Bless,
Stacy in SE MI

No, Stacy, I didn't think you were being critical at all! We are ALL called to be missionaries through our baptism! We just need to seek those opportunities. It doesn't mean big stuff like travel to foreign countries.

When folks don't understand THE CALL (ie, unbelieving family members!!) they just think we are acting on a whim, or just something we *want* to do. Believe me.... never planned/wished/prayed about missionary work before! HE just called...He also put it on my husband's and children's hearts as well.

Isn't Faith a beautiful gift! I pray God never takes that gift away!

Blessings of Peace, Katherine

I very much appreciate your candor (and bravery!) in speaking out about the sad loss of Faith among Catholic Europeans.

This got me thinking - the associate pastor at our parish is a priest from India, and he mentioned in a homily one Sunday that the purpose of his work/presence here in the U.S. as noted on his official Visa is - as a missionary!

Sadly, Europe is not the only place where hearts have grown cold towards the Lord........

Our family is involved with a group that does door to door missions right here in Atlanta! The main mission happens during Holy Week when families are hosted by different parishes and then go door to door in neighborhoods inviting people to the Holy Week events at the church.

I was so not into this, but my children are such an inspiration and simply loved it. They helped me shed my baggage of vanity. So many folks were kind and remarked how great it was just to hear what the local church was planning for Holy Week, even if they were not Catholic.

We continue to try to instill a missionary spirit in the kids that is more evangelistic in nature, not proseletizing(sp?). Just a spirit of love for the Church and for souls.

Maybe a simple idea to encourage their missionary spirit would be to ask your pastor what you could do. Maybe he wouild like you to make calls or visits to the elderly or the ill, or collect for a food pantry. Even the corporal works of mercy are evangelistic in that our motivation comes from love of Christ and love of souls. Also,
Catholic World Missions has good ideas for supporting missions.

What a great opportunity to nurture their little missionary hearts!
