How do you clean a toilet bowl? I have Russian cleaning ladies who come once a week and do not speak English. Anyway, one of them does the toilets and she insisted (in her Russian way) on toilet bowl cleaner, which I never buy. I gave in and bought it, but I think she's using it on more than the toilets, plus the "harmful or fatal if swallowed" thing has me a little freaked out, although the lid is supposedly childproof. ...
She is used to the "cling gel" which is thick and you squirt it around in inside of the bowl, scrub and let it sit...
Is toilet bowl cleaner as bad as I think it is? |

One of the ladies in our local hs group had a daughter who got into the toilet bowl cleaner. She was trying to help her mom. She ended up with really bad burns on her hands, stomach, and private area, and was in the local burn unit for a week or so (and the mom wound up in labor and giving birth, so would run back and forth from the burn unit to her pp room!) I think the cleansers are ?basic?, lending to the burns.
We still use them , but I keep them on top shelves, only, and the boys know I am the only one who can use them. I also have the older ones wear gloves (yes, my 18 and 15 yo think this is silly,) when they use them.

Well I see she has no comments. Surely we aren't going to let what she has written stand? She misunderstands the truth and we would do well to correct her (in charity of course). What do you say ladies?

She is moderating all comments so I doubt my reply concerning Mary will go through.

It really is hurtful and personally difficult that so many otherwise lovely people, with lots of otherwise good things to say (like about the stated subject of the blog, "Keeping the Home,") go kind of off-topic in a way that is offensive to other on-line friends. Not that our faith should not influence everything we do, including how we take care of our homes and families; of course it should. This particular blog entry, though, seems more like a tirade about the basic arguments that have been out there since Luther and Calvin. I doubt that anyone is going to "win" the argument about which position is right, because, just as we are committed to Catholicism, this blogger is committed to Protestantism and probably isn't really interested in understanding (or accepting) the Catholic teachings.
I don't mean that in the sense of writing anyone off; it's more like "why does this even have to be part of a homemaking blog?" It just strikes me as somewhat gratuitous.
Just my 2 cents.
Peace,
Nancy

Regardless, Cay, you have responded and the owner of this blog will read it and who knows how you will have affected her.

I intend to! I will comment on her blog and she may well moderate it but I will also comment about it on MY blog and link back to hers (and since links have a way of getting around. . .). Excuse me if I sound irritated but a weekend and last sveral days of dealing with relatives who think exactly like this has me a bit fed up with all this ignorance.
That being said I will also tell you that there's is always hope that what we say will plant a seed that takes root. I am watching my sister in law who has been resistant to the truth for years slowly move from Protestism back to Catholicism. It's a beautiful thing to behold!

Michele,
Oh, yes! you go, girl!
My comment has not come through and I wrote it this morning before going into town on errands.
She's only allowing posts which agree with her. And these people know nothing about the Catholic faith.

Well, I replied, but I doubt very seriously she'll post my response, because somewhere in my response I asked her to please show me where in the Bible it says "sola scriptura."
I also told her I would be praying for her.....

This makes me so sad. I consider myslef to be a Christian and I cant imagine behaving the way she has. While I am no longer a part of the Catholic church (I belong to a non denominational church), my heart is still soft to the richness of the faith and to see all of you share your faith with your children in the way that you are (a way I never was) well, this morning as I thought about it on the way to church I thought about how you all are sharing your faith in a living way... Sad to say that most of my instruction was left up to the Catholic school and not at home. When I hear about all you share and do with your families it makes wonder what my life would have been like if I had been raised a bit differently. Not that I wasn't in an amazingly loving family mind you. I just had such a hunger for the things of God and I didn't know how to find it in the Catholic church or the sacraments, partly I'm sure because it was not something lived out at home?

That's how it was for me Theresa. I strayed for MANY years from my Catholic faith. I just spoke with Katherine about this the other day! And now that I have been "back" for several years, I am making sure that my children and I are truly living the Catholic way!

Michelle, did you ever blog about this? I went and looked at both of your blogs, and didn't see it, but wasn't sure if I may have missed it or not.
