I cannot express how much all your thoughts, suggestions, words, and especially prayers mean to me. I am humbled by your thinking to pray for me. (Now i'm crying thinking how little i am and how your prayers are already lifting me up to help her the way God intends.)
Thank you from the bottom of my

Good news -- my sister's tumor is responding to the latest treatment. I don't know what it means for the long-term, but I do know that she has been given more time on earth with us! Thank you, God!!!!
Please keep praying! (And for my parents too, who went through all this with her when she was 13 and dying from cancer.)

Jen,
She was dying at 13?? I guess I've lost track of her story. Is this brain tumor a recurrence or is it a second tumor related to treatment of the first?

My sister Frances (this same sister) was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was just thirteen years old. It was 1964 and when they opened her up on the operating table they found her riddled with cancer. They took out some and stitched her back up -- there was literally no hope. She was given cobalt (radiation) treatments but not to save her life but extend it a little. Amazingly, my parents didn't tell her what was going on and she had no side effects. They worried that she was going to die every time she sneezed for at least a year, probably longer. My dad says that it was the first time that he "fell on his face before God." They brought the family to the beach.
She didn't die. Even the surgeon said it was a miracle when my dad ran into him at the hospital 20(?) years later.(If you know surgeons, you know that this is a rarity in itself.) She has had more than one medical person doubt her story and tell her that she simply never had ovarian cancer!!
She had no more health problems until a severe 3-day headache in April 2005 that ended up with her in the emergency room being diagnosed with brain cancer (glio-blastoma - the most common and most deadly brain cancer) almost exactly 40 years after her first cancer diagnosis.
They took the entire visible tumor out within a day or two but the nature of the cancer is that there are microscopic bits that basically always result in tumor regrowth. After a rough spring and summer (radiation and some oral chemo that partially paralyzed her!) she actually went back to work as a psych nurse in October. In January she found out that the tumor was back. She had another surgery in March- again removing all the "visible tumor" and is now undergoing her second experimental treatment at N.I.H. She has already out-lived the average life expectancy of 1 year. 2 years is considered quite good, I think and 5 is almost unheard of. While it is very exciting that this new treatment is helping, we still need a miracle.
And my parents are bringing the family to the beach again.

Jen,
There is a wonderful book written by a priest called "Lessons from the School of suffering" by Fr. Jim Willig. Here is the website you can order it from. It's not real long, but it is powerful! He was a young priest diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and he takes us through his journey. As a cancer survivor, I can tell you it touched my life in a way few books have, so maybe it will help your sister and your family. Also, I will lift your sister up in prayer and to my (and countless others') special friend, St. Jude. My children gave me a beautiful St. Jude chaplet and I will pray a special one for your sister. God Bless, Joelle.

I just got back from an impromptu weeklong trip and I just wanted to say: Thanks, Joelle, for the suggestions and especially prayers!!
I am actually in the middle of Fr. Willig's book right now!! (I think that it was recommended on 4real somewhere) Knowing that you were so moved by it and that you are a cancer survivor, I feel more confident about passing it on to my sister.
Thanks again, all of you...
Jen
