Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just did some quick research and found that Mary Draper Ingalls was kidnapped in the 1750's. So a bit before this time period, but worthy of a bit of study as it is local history!

Jenn,
we must be online at the same time! I just read the Brookland article and will copy and paste it when I get on another computer! What an interesting article! Dh's corporate office used to be near there I think (before they moved to Bethesda) so I think he may be familiar with the area. Thanks for linking it!

I'm glad you all had a good time! Any other places you recommend that we hit while we are up there?

At a nature center this weekend I saw an interesting book, Bay Shore Park: The Death and Life of an Amusement Park by Victoria Crenson. The story begins with the 1947 closing of an amusement park near Baltimore and shows how each year the amusement park crumbles a little more as plants and animals make the place their own. It's a great story of succession in the natural world. It looks like it would be an interesting site to visit in the Baltimore area - Bay Shore Park. In addition another War of 1812 battle site is nearby - Battle of North Point
