I'm resurrecting this old thread as we've been using AVKO per Elizabeth's suggestion & it is working very well! We ordered the program directly from AVKO but Sonlight also sells it.

Marianna and I put aside AVKO at the beginning of this year to try Greek and Latin based spelling words using various online sites, but earlier this month I failed to get the weekly list updated and pulled out AVKO again and she was so excited! We therefore have been using it again.

We're using AVKO, too, this year. My 10 yo has A LOT of problems with spelling, and none of the other programs seemed to make any difference (including a program I made up for him.) But with AVKO we're seeing some progress. It's still slow, and we only do about half the words in a day's list sometimes due to attentional issues, but... it is progress .

I was checking this site out, it looks good kind of reminds me of the approach we has at school basic words, word families and building on, at least that is how the sample pages appeared to me.

Can you buy just the one overall book or do you have to have the $12 books for each grade as well?
