Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi, I'm a newbie but this topic caught my eye. My pregnancies just happened after the baby before was already weaned. The one time I did have a pregnancy when a baby was actively nursing, the nursing baby quit wanting to nurse!   He was around 9 months old. I don't know if the milk tasted funny to him, or if there wasn't as much as before, but he weaned himself despite my best efforts to nurse him. He's been independent minded ever since too!

Just wanted to chime in on the male OB issue...my 3 biological children were delivered by a male M.D. and it was fine. For me the most important issue was competancy, which he is completely. Next was a respect for natural birth, which he does completely. On top of that, he is also a Godly man with lots of integrity...so that was a bonus. But the best part of my labor/birth experience was having my dear, FEMALE, friend and labor coach there for the birth of my 2nd born. (Thanks Chari!) While the Doc. is great, for a Doc., he certainly is NOT a birth coach. My advice is that, should you go with a male M.D., don't expect that they will help you through labor. Take along a trusted girl friend (and preferable one with labor coaching experience!) for that!

I nursed until almost 20 weeks into a twin pregnancy without complications. La Leche League recommends weaning around 25 weeks (I think) of a multiple-pregnancy due to slight increase in the risk of preterm labor, but if you are only pregnant with one I don't think there are any recommendations for weaning. The only problem I had with nursing while pregnant was *extreme* breast tenderness. My son weaned himself before I would have had to make the decision to follow the guidelines or not, but I was not unhappy about it! I was not over 35 at the time, though. (I may be for my next pregnancy, though, so I'm keeping an eye on all these questions, too!)

As far as the male OB... # 2 and 3 were delivered by a male OB, and oh, if only I could have taken him with me when I moved!!! He was an excellent doctor, and his wife generally seemed to be pregnant at the same times I was (his 4th child was born a month after my third.) I don't think gender matters as much as the individual. I did not like the female doctors at the group I went to when I was pregnant with my 1st child, nor did I like most of the male doctors at the practice I went to with my twins. Fortunately the one doctor I *did* like (also male) was on call when I went into labor with the babies. (Moving during a pregnancy is not something I recommend, for lots of reasons. Ugh.)
