Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

thanks for the recommendation on the vita-mix, rebecca. i've been considering one for years but they ARE expensive. maybe next year. i'd love to make nut butters myself (no peanuts though -- allergies), and the food processor doesn't do a very good job.

and i've got an unusual smoothie recipe, for anyone who's interested:

it's actually a take on bubble/boba/pearl teas, if you like that type of thing:

milk or non-dairy alternative
avocado (yup) or boiled taro roots (peeled before boiling) or frozen young coconut with juice (in Asian stores, in the frozen section)
your choice of green tea, black tea, or chai, brewed strongly
sugar or alternative sweetener like honey to taste
ice

whirl in blender

add in pre-cooked pearl/tapioca balls if desired.

We have the Vita Mix too (Total Nutrition Centre) industial strength. It cost us alot (Australian dollar is weaker too!) but I had gone through so many cheaper blenders before that purchase and it was starting to add up!!

It has been totally reliable and I can be 'rougher' on it and therefore do more with it, whereas you have limitations with others. When we purchased it we were going through a Vegan period and it was heavenly to find it much, much easier to make milk from whole almonds, the milk quality was much higher too due to it's incredibly powerful blades.

We had a Champion juicer before the Vita Mix and for us personally we were not getting our money's worth out of it, so we sold it to help finance the Vita Mix - for anyone who thinks it could be a worthwhile purchase - maybe being able to sell all the unwanted gadgets in our lives can help a little in aquiring the things that are going to be a 'bedrock basic' in our kitchens.

A smoothie receipe? Well we have done a 360 degree turn about with our ideas on nutrition and here is one that we use for good health and it contains strawberries.

1/2 can of full fat coconut milk
1 raw egg
1 tablespoon of pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon of linseeds
1 teaspoon of raw honey or honey comb
2 or 3 frozen straw berries or blueberries (we usually add more)
2 tablespoons yoghut and/or whipping cream

Put in blender together and mix, if the blend comes out too rich for your taste, you can add some water to think it out.

Maybe its my brand. Meredith, what brand of silken tofu are you using?

Oh, good question, I'm out right now, but next time I'm at the store which will probably be tomorrow I'll pick some more up. It really has hardly any taste, but the texture is great!
