Melissa is recovering from her surgery, which was a success at stopping the bleeding. Unfortunately, she had to have her entire large intestine removed. She is in quite a bit of pain. Now that the bleeding has been eliminated, doctors will now be starting the anticoagulants to deal with the clots in the liver arteries.

Here is an update I received today from Melissa's mother.
"Thank-you for all of your prayers. Finally some more good news. Her liver enzymes continue to drop (meaning her liver is regenerating) and her pancreatic enzymes (that went back up after surgery---meaning pancreatitis again ) are finallly coming down. She ate her first meal today (breakfast--bagel) and tolerated it well and she is up walking the halls. Everything is improving and her mood too. Although she is dealing now with body image.
She feels like she looks horrible and has a rash from pain meds all over her face.
She was very teary-eyed for a couple days as she learns to adjust with all of this. I am sure once home she will also face it all over again. It was so nice to have all of her friends around her for support and although she is tired alot of the time she is starting to get back to her normal Melissa. Praise God.
So all of our spirits are raised as she is continues and improves. So please let everyone know how truly blessed we are to have their prayers and support through this incredibly difficult time. We couldn't have done it without you all. All of those deep despairing dark nights I knew there were people praying that helped me trudge through and praise God even in my trials."
So thank you all for the prayers you have been offering up for Melissa. They are very powerful and mean so much to her and to her family!

Melissa is home from the hospital! Thank you for all of your prayers! Here is an update from her mom:
She is healing and liver enzymes were totally normal when we left the hospital. The pacreas is still irritated so enzymes are still up but not much. The final ultra sound showed not increase in the clot size but it was still there and the same. Her body has to adjust and build new vessels around and through it. She still takes shots 2 times a day for blood thinners to keep the clot from getting bigger. At least 6 months on those. So her arms are bruised. We are going to go shopping when she feels better to get some clothes that will fit around her ileostomy and bag and hide it (new swimsuit and all).
She is working through the pain and I think it is less each day. Everyones' prayers have been such a blessing and please let all know in the darkest nights in the hospital they sustained us. I couldn't have gotten through this without you all. God's blessings and have a wonderful summer."

Glad to hear she is recovering. She is still in my prayers as she continues to heal and deal with all that entails. She is blessed to have your friendship and love.
