Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Prayers continue here. As it turns out, some local friends of ours are relatives of the Ansberrys, and our large St. Monica Mothers' Prayer Group is covering them with additional prayers.

Prayed for Peter and family at Mass tonight, and will offer a Holy Hour for everyone tomorrow.

Sally

Peter will be going through withdrawing for the next 2-4 days. They are trying to wean him off his paralysis and then his sedation. When I left the hospital this evening, his heart rate was 130 and blood pressure kept climbing to 180. They had to double up on the Cardoman (blood pressure medicine) that they had stopped giving him yesterday. They haven't discovered what is causing this high blood pressure and the high white blood cell count. They are still culturing. Peter is beginning to shake just slightly, but they said if they can't get the blood pressure down, they will have to sedate him fully again. In fact, they gave him an additional short-term sedation right before I left. He had originally been on it before they paralyzed him fully. Please continue to pray for the next few days. This is important that he can get off the sedation, so they can do a feeding tube to the stomach, a tracheotomy, so he can cut down on getting any more strains of pneumonia.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support,
Stephanie

My heart is aching for you, Stephanie. We prayed and I have my teens praying who are a million times better pray-ers than I. I think the hardest part is not knowing, so I will pray specifically that Peter is able to come off sedation very, very soon and that answers are found for the blood pressure and white cell count. We all appreciate you taking the time to come here and update us.

When were having all kinds of trouble with Rose's adoption, we prayed the The 24 Glory Be Novena to St. Therese and prayers/novenas to St. Jude and Padre Pio. We have some amazing stories about receiving roses and blessings!

You and your family are in out thoughts and prayers. May God heal Peter completely and quickly.

Update from Stephanie:
"I made a quick trip home from the hospital. We had a disappointing day yesterday, but today has been better. He is running a fever this afternoon, but his ICP pressures have been lower and steadier today. The neurosurgeon is talking about taking out his cranial tube tomorrow and possibly the tube in his lung. He is trying to switch his medication to the stomach tube and/or port and to get rid of some of the lines going into his body. They don't like to see the fever, because it indicates infection somewhere. So the more lines they can eliminate, the better for Peter. He lost his "beard" last night, so when I walked in this morning, he looked a few years younger. His hands and feet are swelling, but this is expected. He just looks uncomfortable. He received a very, very small piece of Our Lord today in the Holy Eucharist. It was so thoughtful of the Eucharistic minister to ask the trauma surgeon if that was possible. We never thought of it, because Peter can't speak or swallow.. Today is day 13 and we hope so much that this week they will be able to begin lowering his sedation levels.Thank you for everyone's prayers."

Please keep those prayers coming!
God bless, Maria

Note from Stephanie:
Peter had a good day today despite running temperatures all day. The doctors aren't sure that it is an infection. It might be the injury itself. They are still running cultures. Peter was able to get his a-line removed this morning. However, there was a bubble in his lung, so they were unable to remove that tube. They are hoping to do that tomorrow or Wednesday if he heals enough to do so. He is coughing quite a bit, so they think he must have burst it during a coughing spasm. Early this evening the neurosurgeon removed his cranial tube. It is a little weird to look up at the monitors and be unable to see his pressure rise when he is moved or stimulated, but it is a step in the right direction. They raised him up in the bed, so he looks so much like himself, just sleeping away despite all the tubes and the thin hospital gown. The room is frigid and sometimes they also run a fan. But he doesn't seem to mind it too much, except that his hands and feet sometimes are very cold, but it is one way to bring down his temperature. Tomorrow, if all goes well, a MRI, is scheduled. They were going to wait until the end of the week, but decided to do it while he is fully sedated. Then, they will start tapering the sedation. Thank you so much for all the prayers!
Stephanie

We will continue to pray. Glad to hear that they are tapering off the various interventions.
