Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Continuing to pray. We have Peters in our family, and I know how uniquely special they are.

We continue to hold Peter in our prayers. and prayers for you and the family, too, Stephanie.

There is a Caring Bridge site for Peter where the family is posting updates.

This morning his father posted:
Quote:

Peter had a good night. We are seeing some bodily functions occurring which is positive. His body is working to remove the impurities. His pupils constrict faster than yesterday when exposed to light. Still in the coma and will remain for several days. I am told the next 24-48 hours still hold the chance for brain swelling. Please keep praying. That is the best medicine. We are not through the storm yet and the road is long.

I just passed on his caringbridge page to someone locally who has a lot to do with the Community of St. John...what a small world. Praying and praying for Peter’s recovery. I just read this on CNN....Fish Oil used in brain injuries
I don’t know if it would be helpful in Peter’s case.....but it does seem interesting. Fish oil could cause increased bleeding, so it might not be the appropriate time to use, I don’t know...but it’s worth looking into.

I am continuing to offer prayer for Peter's life and for his recovery, and for you, Stephanie. Thank you, Mary, for linking us to the Caring Bridge site.

We are still praying too, Stephanie. It was my Peter who nearly drowned in August. I feel like we had a little miracle with him and that is what I will pray for your Peter too. God bless you and your family during this terrible time of suffering.

Stephanie, we offered our Mass for Peter, also! Praying and praying for your Peter (we also have a Peter- yes, they are so special!) Prayers, too, for you and your family during this inconceivably difficult time.

I know how scary it is to have your precious son in a medically induced coma. I'm so sorry for all this suffering.

Prayers for all of you during this difficult time....

I don't duck in here too often as I find the forum format rather difficult, but I did want to give you a little update. Peter remains in a medically induced coma, is battling pneumonia (though I think they caught that early), and Stephanie and her family are understandably distraught and exhausted.
She sent this note last night:
"I know the Caring Bridge is there, but I just got home from the hospital and had to write.
I am trying not to lose hope, but it has been 8 days, seeing Peter just lying there. I have hit a point of exhaustion. The doctor has decided not to do an MRI tomorrow as planned. His brain pressure is still too high to undergo a 45 minute test and the transportation down the halls to the MRI machine. His temp was coming down as I left, but his blood pressure was still too high. This waiting is almost too much. I am not sure if I should not stay so long in his room, but I feel so sick when I am not with him."

This is the link to Peter's Caring Bridge page:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/peteransberry

I spoke with her this morning and she was dashing out the door because Peter was headed for surgery. Somehow his lung had been punctured while preparing for or getting a CAT scan. I was not clear on the details, but it was one more thing on top of a week plus of such worries, fear, while also real trust and hope rooted in strong faith.
I know brief updates are made to his CB site, and I will update this forum if I have more info.

One further thing; we talked very briefly about practical helps for the family. Stephanie was initially hesitant, but she recognized that it can be a gift to others to allow them to help if that sort of thing would, in fact, be helpful. Generally speaking, gift cards to standard stores and restaurants are very helpful and easily mailed. That's just one idea. I'm sure the family would appreciate anything any one of you might wish to do. Once a list member sent Adrienne some hats her daughter, inspired to be a milliner because she knew Adrienne was going to be bald for a while, made. Adrienne still has and treasures them. We got spiritual bouquets and notes to take to the hospital on chemo days to help pass the time more happily. The other children sometimes got care packages to brighten their days which were necessarily also more stressful and lonely.
Anyway, if you would like to send the Ansberry's something, Stephanie said I could share their address:

**Please PM a moderator if you would like an address**

Thanks!
God bless, Maria

I didn't have time to update you all last night, but do now. :)
Stephanie said that the short surgery went well but his O2 levels are off, and she was headed back to the hospital for a little bit last evening.
She and the whole family much appreciate your prayers and thoughtfulness.

God bless, Maria

Oh, {{{Stephanie}}} I just heard about your son, Peter. We here will all pray hard for him and his caregivers and your family. We are here for you, my friend! I wish I could do more!

I agree with Stacy...We do have a Peter, too. And they ARE so very special! God bless Peter!
