Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

maybe nail polish will last longer than 12 hours without chipping

** Today's polishes are a lot more durable than ones I used several years ago.

** A pretty peachy-pink-buff neutral polish doesn't jump out at you when it chips slightly. Not like a darker pink, coral or red would.

Jen.....how long are you going with your polish before you have to touch up or re-do?

A week! I do not do a top coat or a base coat - nope! Just clean hands and nails, apply a pretty polish, let dry while watching schmaltz on television!

And, I am working on setting up my hand zones this weekend - evening hand routine in basket next to my spot on the couch, weekly polish and deep moisturize basket set up in bathroom. Anyway, I really want to look into a better polish remover - the key is to strip that polish as SOON as it starts chipping! And then, I just wait til my next evening of intense hand attention and re-polish. Even short fingernails look very nice and tidy with a little neutral polish that has just a little bit of shine to it!

Yes, but that is the GOOD STUFF, Jodie!! That's for popcorn!!!! Merciful heavens - semi-liquid-gold!!!! I wouldn't DREAM of using my popcorn coconut oil on my hands!!!    That's just HOW MUCH WE POPCORN!! Priorities!!!

but when you compare it in cost to high quality lotions and such.. you may find that the cost makes the coconut oil absolutely reasonable.

J I use the shea butter lotion and when my fingers get rough and flaky I use a salt scrub on my finger tips. If I would learn to use gloves when I washed the dishes I'm sure this would prevent that!

Shea butter creams/lotions do seem to be really effective. DD has the most problem with cracking and likes Burt's Bees HomeBodyHand CareShea Butter Hand Repair Cream Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream. I like it too. I also really like Now Cocoa Butter Lotion. Has some emotional connection for me with my dad, has nice texture/not greasy and I love the subtle hint of cocoa in the scent.

I have been noticing that about myself as well - the vein popping - they are really prominent now. So is there really anything that can be done about this? Probably need more fat in my hands...

Hey - this is inspiring! I feel like popping White Christmas in the Blu Ray and popping some popcorn!!! I'm sure THAT is definitely GOOD FOR MY HANDS!!!

YES! Double duty for the coconut oil - popcorn flavoring AND hand moisturizer while eating. Slather it on the popcorn and just wallow your hands in the popcorn...

Years ago I got into the habit of weekly clipping, filing and buffing of my nails. I would then run a white nail pencil underneath the nail to brighten them up. They looked nice and shiny, it was easy upkeep and I avoided dealing with chipping and having to use yucky nail polish remover. This thread reminded me I need to start doing it again! Agree that MK Satin Hands is the best!

Unbelievable! I just bought nail polish at the grocery store. I haven't done that in years

I like this.. I know that just buffing my nails can make them look nice without polish.. what what's a nail pencil? what is is made of? what does it do? I'm guessing this has the look of the french manicure nail polish?

I like this, too. I hate the smell of nail polish . . . I've maybe painted my nails three times since since junior high. I just keep them short and hopefully neat. Buffing seems like something I could do, though, and I might even extend as far as the nail pencil . . .

This is what my old nail pencil looked like...just like a white eyeliner pencil! I would wet it a little and just line the underside of my nail with it (or you could use it after you washed your hands when they were a little wet). It only lasted a day or two, but I think the fact that I did it and my nails looked nice made me keep up with my clipping and buffing on a weekly basis, which was the more important part anyway.

Adding something else to consider - Piggy Paint. It's non-toxic and odor-less fingernail polish, completely natural. We can find it in stores around here, as well as online. My girls really like it.

** It's easy to clean up.
** Doesn't last as long as regular polish - maybe a day or two.
** Is best removed with the special Piggy Paint remover - also odorless.

Adding some more natural polishes for consideration:

Zoya
Priti NYC
NARS
Rescue Beauty Lounge
butter of London
Scotch Naturals
Honeybee Gardens

All of these vary quite a bit in pricing, but none contain the big 3 of the toxic mish-mash in most nail polishes, they're odor free, and remove with a simple swipe of alcohol.

not a lotion or nailcare recommendation, but be sure you're drnking enough water-homes tend to be drier in the winter due to the heat being on.
