Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Marilyn- what great gifts ideas! I hope you will share some of your recipes here.

Which proclick binder do you have? I have never thought I needed one before, but lately I have thought of several times I could have used one.

Jodie- that is awesome about your girls helping. I'm so glad they got their sign!

Oh cool.. your "walnut cups" are very like the "nut cups" recipe that I got from my dh's family.

Melinda - I will try and post some recipes. I have a wrist injury which makes typing hard I have the proclick p50 - it was on a huge offer on Amazon - I had it in my cart for years and finally took the plunge!

Mel, I got them 70% off from Williams-Sonoma one year. Prior to that I was just using fluted cutters and a plain cake decorating tip to make the "three eyes" for Drei Augen". The fluted cutter is optional too, can just use a biscuit cutter or other round cutter. :) I think the point is just to have some holes for the preserves to show through :)

Yes, Jodie, any nuts really would be great for this -- heh-heh, I use walnuts because the kids can't eat them. Otherwise we'd be snacking them all day.

Well, I'm awful late to this discussion, but just wanted to share a super simple candy we make every year for dh's employees, friends and family:

~Melt together on stovetop, stirring continually:
1 12 oz. bag Butterscotch Baking Chips
     1 12 oz. bag Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
(We use the Nestle brand of each, but other brands will do. A large flat bottom pan and large flat spatula work best for stirring.)

~Add, cooking only enough to blend thoroughly with melted chips:
     1 cup peanut butter
(We use smooth pb, but crunchy would work just fine & would add extra texture)

~Remove from heat and stir in:
     1 pound Spanish peanuts
(With the skins on, aka redskin peanuts.)

~Drop by teaspoon onto wax paper freeform or into small paper candy cups. Chill, keep refrigerated until serving or gifting.

Super easy ~ very yummy!

Resurrecting thread...

I am working on:
1. The stationery basket I mentioned in another thread

2. Beeswax jar candles - still trying to find a source for good quality beeswax

3. Rice baggies - I made these for a couple of the kids last year and they were a huge hit with the cold winter we had

4. Lip salves for all the chapped lips around

5. Maybe pajama pants for all the boys and dh - not sure if this is too ambitious for me

6. I will do our usual cookie traditions for us. But have decided to make one bulk item for neighbors etc - rather than a cookie selection. I am thinking of somthing like a peppermint chocolate fudge. I got the cutest treat boxes from Micheals today (with my 40% off coupon)

I have made several embellished gift towels.

Also, these cloth napkins sew up quickly and can be really pretty/fun depending on the fabrics you choose.

This year on the list of handmade stuff:

1. Chocolate cherry fruitcake
2. Rice baggies too!! Because I have so much material that I need to use.
3. Scarves for my kids because they bought yarn intending to knit for themselves and then gave up.
4. Insulated potholders and bakers' mitts that I started years ago.
5. Lotion bars and lip balm.

This year:

1. Ear flap hats for the boys. I have some nice wool Tartan I inherited from my mom's stash, and I'd like to use this pattern. i had good luck with her newsboy hat pattern this summer.

2. Paperwhite bulb growing kit. I am using a ton of 28oz cans of whole tomatoes these days, and I think we can add som twine, a pretty tag, a bag of pebbles, and instructions pretty simply. The kit containing 5 bulbs is $40 from Harry and David! I can order 100 bulbs for $50ish!

3. Christmas stove top potpourri mix. I dehydrated my own oranges in the oven last year, and it was so simple. I think I still have some star anise, and cinnamon sticks are affordable from Costco. I think we can put some bags or jars together rather simply, and it is so pretty!

4. Dh is making individual wooden crates for the boys to store their personal things.

We went with a friend to a yarn store recently to help pick out yarn for a gift she is making the baby, and the boys decided they would like to knit. I am thinking about calling and seeing if they will do a private lesson for the three oldest together and scheduling it for St Nicholas day and then having St. Nick bring a skein of yarn and some needles.

Any ideas for what the 16 month old and 3.5 year old might like? I am thinking something to keep them busy during the lesson!
