Yes, we DO need one, Erin...and I got a nice wide dresser off craigslist a couple weeks ago that we are in the process of painting.
But, the changing PAD and maybe a new cover may be in order....I think I've seen nice plushy ones that we never had before....they call it something like an animal.....can't think of the name....
And, wondering about a new rocker for our bedroom....since we have ROOM for such a luxury now in this house!

This topic is fresh on my mind....
Always wanted a Ergo carrier. Was excited to actually have an idea for my mother who asked what the baby needed.
Also, I am not seeing as many receiving blankets that I thought I had. Maybe a fresh stack for the mother?
Herbal bath for postpartum (can make this or buy it) along with other nice teas for nursing/post partum.
Cherry pit bag. Basically a cloth bag filled with cherry pits. Great for microwaving or freezing to soothe cramps, sore muscles, keeping baby warm, etc. They are easy to make, but I'll bet someone sells them too.
Amber necklace for the baby (good for teething).
Baby care kit (baby tylenol, teething tabs, baby soap, etc.).
And I second the cloth diapers, assuming she uses them. Asking her what kind she prefers and adding to her supply. Maybe some good detergent and some wool dryer balls to add to it.

Wet bags! Even if you don't cloth diaper, it's great to have a small/medium waterproof bag in your diaper bag. Transport diaper blown out outfits or puked-on burp cloths home without worry. I love this brand and use both their pail liners and travel sized bags...

Well I did it!! Today we went garage saling (yard sales) and we found the most gorgeous change table!!!! Truly a solid timber heritage item. I'm certain it cost hundreds of dollars brand new, we paid $80 (more than I ever have before)
They also had an incredible cot, like a sleigh bed that really would have been fit for Prince George. Regretfully at $450 I couldn't justify it but it matched and it was incredibly drool worthy. If I was at the beginning of my babies and not the end... but then I didn't have any money back then.
So anyhow I have now one item for the baby, so I think I'm inspired to begin preparing. Bought anything yet Suzanne?

Thought of another item that could well need replacing for you. Do you need new nappy buckets?

It's a true square - can I get an Amen? I mean...does it annoy anyone else that most baby blankets are NOT square?? Please don't make me feel like a total geometrically obsessed idiot!! But seriously, when a blanket isn't a square it's hard to fold or swaddle with it. It's always...off. I've used these for just about everything! One swaddling blanket rolled up in the diaper bag functions in so many ways and lets me pack efficiently! It's finally a blanket that's NOT the size of a postage stamp so you can do something with it! |

AMEN! No snuggling babies here, but Jen I just had to echo your non-square baby blanket frustration. Either make it clearly a strong rectangle or go for the square. The almost squares drive me crazy! |

I managed to pick up 4 second hand A&A swaddles yesterday, I was so pleased. I didn't realise they were square till I got them, and a good size too. I'm a bit of a baby blanket nut, but I somehow didn't seem to have enough summer weight swaddles (being almost summer here in Aust.).
I wouldn't mind some muslin flannels (do you call them flannels in the US? For washing baby in the bath. I couldn't get an Etsy search to come up for what I wanted under flannels anyway) and a couple of towels in muslin too. One of my favourite fabrics to use with babies, but for some reason don't have much of.
I'm going to have to go out and buy a new pram at some point, our old one has finally gotten to the end. I'm hoping to pick up something second hand, my local area is full of young families and it is very easy to pick up something almost new.
I like my BabyHawk. I like how it supports the babies head. I have an Ergo type carrier, a Beco Butterfly, but it just doesn't work for me. I can't get the hood to support my babies head properly when they sleep. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, or my babies are too short or the Ergo does it better but my Baby Hawk is great and I much prefer it. The BH also doesn't have any breakable parts, unless you buy the one with snaps. I had one of my snaps break on the other carrier. I don't think this is the fault of the carrier, just that plastic will inevitably break.
I also prefer my BH over wraps, even for newborns, but nevertheless I do use my stretch wraps a lot when they are little.
I wouldn't mind some organic baby suits, but they are so expensive over here. They would be about the only other thing I wouldn't mind getting for this little fellow.
Organic baby product are something I have gotten into in recent babies and have really liked. But I can't recommend any US products. For fellow Aussies, Botty Balm from Beauty and the Bees is lovely. Their other baby products are a bit too pricey for me though.

I'm jealous A timber change table, that would be lovely!
No more looking for me right now though. I think the A&A blankets I picked up yesterday were my last moment dash at preparation. I'm over 39 weeks now, past due for me. Can't wait to see this little boy! Going to tuck a couple of those swaddles away in my hospital bag now

:: Lastly, I tried a couple of pieces of teething jewelry and I kind of like them. They're fun, and if you have intense and early teethers (I do!!), you might appreciate them. They're all made of silicone, so totally safe for baby to chew on, and they're made with baby safety in mind. I have a Bumkins Nixi teething bracelet in gray, and a saffron yellow pendant. The baby loves gnawing on both. |

Talking about safe things for baby to chew on. Now this is an idea, some crafting fun to do. I made some of my own brown scapulars from the undyed wool of brown sheep(pretty sure it's called roving, it is the wool just before it's spun into yarn). It is the wool of Shetland sheep, and I think they call it black, but it is a dark brown. I never can keep my babies from sucking on my scapular, but after learning more about dyes hated the thought of what they sucked out of them. So I made some felt sheets of the brown organic wool, various online places show how to do this, cut it into rectangles, hand stitched the edge and sewed on some cord right round three edges for extra sturdiness.

One more idea, to sew or buy. I have never been able to find nursing tops that I was happy with. They either were immodest, too pricey, or ill fitting. Then with my last baby I came up with something that suited me better. I made a tube top, initially for wearing during labour, but discovered after that if I wore it with the top of it directly under the bottom of my bra's and put on one of my usual tops over the top it worked much better than any nursing tops I had.
It's good for winter night feeds too keeping your tummy nice and warm. I made mine from sturdy stretch knit, made them long enough to cover from just under my bra's down to below my hips and made them tight. This combination, sturdy fabric, long length, and tight fit stops them slipping etc. I find mine stay where I want them without being uncomfortable. Hope this might be a helpful idea to someone anyway

Someone gave us the Aden / Anais blankets.....
It says to wash on cold / dry on low heat. Does anyone do this?

They are 100% cotton, they should be okay at hotter temps. Mine get no special treatment. These days you will find lower temps recommended on products as an environmentally friendly recommendation, but the item can handle hotter. I go by fabric type to decide what temps. The lower temp may lead to less shrinkage? That's another possibility. I think heat, particularly dryers, do destroy fibres quicker over time. But my Kiwi Green muslin wrap has survived the last 13 years and 6 babies with no special care, except perhaps depending on what it's going in with. If it's going in with stuff it can snag on or it might get tangled with I put it in a zip up wash bag. Other than that in the wash it goes

OK, good!
Lindsay, I got the bouncy seat/rocker thingie and it's so neat!!! The height of it is so much better than the lower ones. Love it! Thank you.
We also decided to get some new cloth diapers....some AIO diapers so that it's easier for the kids to change cloth diapers. They always reached for the disposables last time around b/c my simple prefold system was apparently too complicated. . So, now we have some cute, colorful dipes in the house that everyone thinks are adorable, easy-to-use, and they keep touching and handling them.
Someone gave us a gift certif from Etsy. (I didn't know you could GET gift certif for Etsy!) So, had fun picking out a new diaper bag.
And, there were some cute burpies and bibs on sale on Black Friday, so got a few new "minkie things."
And, did you know that there are fabric covered wipe containers? I got a wipe container with a "coordinating" changing pad!
How did I go from a 13-year-old BLACK Lands'End diaper bag and plain ol' prefolds used on SIX kids to.....
:: new non-black diaper bag??
:: 7 different beautifully colored diapers
:: matching changing pad / wipe container
?????
And, I just finished putting contact paper in the craigslist dresser that we're going to use as a changing table. It's painted and has all those cute colorful diapers sitting in it
SO FUN, everyone! I'm feeling not-at-all curmugeon-y about all-things-baby these days!

I am so happy for you, Suzanne! I think when we are older moms and suspect this might just be our very last babe, we have a different approach to nesting and frugalness .

Realised I needed new cloth nappy liners and couldn't find my old favourites anymore. After some research I went and bought some cheesecloth and the thinnest micro fiber fabric I could find. The micro fiber is soo cute, has little yellow ducks on it. Dh gets the prize for finding it amongst all the rolls.
Totally get the nappy bag thoughts. When I had my last baby 2.5yrs ago I rebelled at carting around my previous bag, I decided at 39 I was too old to be carrying a bag with teddy bears on it. I actually went and bought an oversize leather handbag. By baby no 9 I realised I didn't need to cart around all the paraphernalia that I did with baby no 1.
