I had never heard of Visual Latin. I went and looked at it and they had some free lessons to view. They had an induction video on why to learn Latin. I watched it with my boys and they asked to learn Latin afterwards and to start right away. One problem though! I had no intentions of switching programs, but they think we are going to use Visual Latin now. They want to learn Latin if we use Visual Latin!! I think I should just go with it. They have some of the first lessons for free so we may give it a trial run. I was worried about splitting them up, but my youngest asked me to do it separate because he "plans to take it slow". He didn't think he could learn it was fast as his older brother.

If they liked it, I would go with it. We have Visual Latin, and my dc also really
like the format of the dvds. The instructor is funny and "real". He makes Latin something you really might like and use- not something you don't like but have to learn because Mom said so.

These are great testimonials. I really do need to look into this seriously.

I first heard of it through Lindsay's recommendation.... big sigh of relief! I knew that Latin would be a tough sell for my dc, but this is the format for us.

Ooh, I've just downloaded the guide to using VL with Henle, and the free seven lessons! This could really make my year next year!

It has meant Latin happens with regularity even though this is a survival year with a newborn. I have been letting ds do it independently for the most part, but I know that won't work forever. I think that *I* want to learn Latin using the program now that the baby is a little more predictable. I cannot say whether it builds the best foundation. LC might in fact be a superior program. I just don't know. But for us, right now, the Latin that we will do consistently and willingly s better than that which we won't. I think it is setting a foundation for Latin as something desirable to learn, which goes a long way in my book.

I'm right there with you. Having just downloaded the (free!!) worksheets, I am thinking that it would be a good thing to do at least a year of this. I'm undecided whether I'd try to do VL AND Henle, though I do really like how Henle lays out the grammar. I did download the guide to merging the two . . . the only real drawback, it seems to me, is that at some point in the first year I'd *have* to buy VL2, in order to have videos to go with the progression of the first half of Henle. Not that it wouldn't be doable . . . but next year is already shaping up rather expensively!
I watched the first of the free intro lessons, though, and I'm totally sold.

Just an FYI, Visual Latin is 30% off right now. I was just there buying VL2 for next year for us and saw that there are ">live classes with Doug available for Henle, also discounted right now. The price includes the digital downloads needed for use with Henle.

I saw the the Homeschool Co-op had it for $65 and that ends today. But, it's the download and I want the DVDs.
We hadn't gotten around to doing any Lain. We didn't watched the first lesson until last night and everyone lost that little desire they had for Latin.
No matter how hard I try I just can't seem to make my boys learn Latin. They are so stubborn and set against it that I can't do anything about it. I could walk them through all the reason they are fighting me, but they are putting up a wall and refusing to listen to anything. Dh is no help as he doesn't think Latin is important and thinks I should drop it. Seeing that my kids get their stubbornness from me, I'm not ready to give in. It's sad that I'm going to lose this fight and I'm the one that's right and they will lose out on a better education.
