Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Love these stories!

Grabbing a free washer is just so awesome. Erin- did he move it himself?
He must be really strong to carry tables and washers.

Sally- the excitement of an oven door falling open would thrill the crowd here, too. That story made me laugh. I am glad you got it fixed.

Lindsay- I just sent my dh a message about possibly spray painting our
oven door, as it needs it! It is starting to yellow, and though the oven works fine, it does not look great. What brand of paint did you use?

Hiking is a great frugal hobby . Only don't give me the map, or that 1.5 hour family-friendly hike might turn into a 4 hour trek, with the last 30 minutes being straight up the side of a steep cliff. And then the map reader might not be very popular for awhile... even though it was only one wrong turn...

But you never know what delights await you while hiking. Our last hike involved hiking to a bench on the side of a hill that overlooked the ocean. So you could sit on the bench and look out, from your high perch, on the ocean below.

Only when we arrived at the bench, it was full of older folks (how they made the hike to it I am not sure- it was not easy) who were being in led in song by a young man with a guitar. They all had song books and were
making their way through John Denver's Greatest Hits.

So we were able to enjoy all the verses of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" while we stood and gazed at the sea...

I should tell you about the year our fridge door kept falling off. The three operative words in that story would be "screwdriver," "brick," and "caution." OK, four: "screwdriver," "brick," and "extreme caution."

We still have that fridge, too, but I'll save the story for another time. :)

Sally
LOVE your story

Now I just need replacement plastic knobs for the front, since three of the old ones have cracked off, probably due to escaping heat from the improperly-shut door . . .

A very frugal suggestion for you. When we were making a play kitchen for our girls, I went to the tip (town dump) and explained to the tip man how I was needing knobs for my girls toy kitchen, he went over and pulled off knobs of a couple of washing machines and gave them to me.

Maybe you might be lucky and they could find old stoves and give/sell you the knobs

I must ask him, somehow I wouldn't be surprised. Yes he is very strong, all those years of house building.

I think that this is what we used. He took the door completely apart, cleaned the inside of the glass super well, scraping with a razor blade I think, and did two coats, leaving it to dry for almost a week before touching it to put it back together. You might want to take some photos while you take it apart so you can get it together just right. The switch for the light was a little tricky.

Somehow there was a black streak on it recently that wouldn't wipe off, and I used a magic eraser, and it came off and didn't harm the finish at all

I'm so embarrassed. I was telling dh about the new craze over the very strange song "What Does the Fox Say" and apparently that link was still on my clipboard ~~PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE LINK IN THE E-MAIL~~ [Where's the Obiwan emoticon when I need it?? ]
