We're taking him in to the doctor tomorrow The site looks much better but it is leaking even more than it was before, which causes him a lot of pain and probably isn't doing his electrolyte balance any good either. Basically, a good portion of what he drinks ends up soaking his shirt, sigh.... the tissue is probably just too stressed to come together properly. The same thing happened a couple of years ago when they took out the shunt in his ventricles.
Whether it comes to surgery or just treatment in the clinic, we are not sure at this point. I'll update when we know. Anyway, I KNOW that just the doctor looking at the site will be hard for him to take. I am very grateful for the prayers. He is a valiant soul and yes, he is turning 7 in two days!

Aidan is scheduled for a surgery consultation but not until June 13th which means he probably won't actually have the surgery for a couple of weeks still. All in all, this is a bit frustrating. In retrospect, I wish the GI doctor had simply scheduled him for surgery in the first place, or that I'd researched more ahead of time since now I've heard from several sources that few Gtube sites close spontaneously if they've been in for more than a few months.

I'm sorry he is headed for more surgery. I wonder if the docs have to give it a chance to close on it's own for insurance reasons. Rats. He is in our prayers.

Oh Willa, I'm sympathetic with these feelings of frustration and wishing I'd done more. As your friend, I get to reassure you that you did so much so well. Keep up the wonderful mothering and strong desire to do God's will.
Prayers continue for Aidan.
Love,

Oh, Willa. Sort of puts your life on hold, doesn't it. And leaves Aidan in a certain amount of discomfort.
Prayers continue.

Aidan had his surgical consultation yesterday. The surgery is scheduled for Monday the 19th -- it will be a day surgery and not too complicated, just a matter of revising the tissue and stitching.
June seems to be a medical month in his history -- I think we are at 5 out of 8 right now as far as hospitalizations for June, if you count his birth month....
We figured out that an Ace bandage wrapped around his middle seems to keep the stoma from leaking as much, and also avoids the discomfort of removing tape from the bandage several times a day. So his comfort level has been much better in the past couple of weeks. But I can tell his mood has been more fragile in the past couple of weeks -- he is not his normal cheerful self -- so I'm glad that pretty soon he will be past all this.
