Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Introductions posted this past week have made us realize that a new 2013 intor thread was never started (and we are 5 months into the year ). So I'm starting one and moving current intros into it.   Sorry.

Welcome to our message boards, Amy. I too love the focus on "natural" learning.

That is interesting that there is an ethnic Czech-American town in Texas. One of my best friends is a first generation Czech-American. So are you or your husband of the Czech heritage?

And a welcome to Becca, too. Looking forward to having you both as members.

MaryM,

I would say that about 80-90% of East Bernard is Czech-American. Quite a few here are hispanic as well (because this is Texas of course). Most Czech families settled here 3 generations ago. My husband is third-generation Czech-American, and it's his generation that has started marrying outside the Czech community. I didn't grow up here, but am lucky to have found my home here.

Hi, I'm Michelle. I've been lurking here for a couple of years (thank you all for your picture book recommendations!), and now that my eldest is almost 5, I figured it was time to join in. I also have a toddler (2.5) and one coming at the end of the summer. We live near Seattle. I've long been intrigued by homeschooling, so I've been reading, and sharing with my husband, but we weren't sure we could actually do it. We have a pretty counter-cultural lifestyle (being Catholic, you know), but not going to school is big. In getting to know our eldest, and as she began to reveal who she is (socially young on top of being young-for-grade level, and reading fluently at 3.5), we realized that there would be no way we could send her to school. So here we are!

It's always fun when members come out of lurkdom and join in the conversation. Glad to see you like the picture book recommendations - one of my favorite areas to post. Please post your favorites for us. Welcome, Michelle!

Hello! My name is Angela. My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years. We have 4 children: ds almost 13, dd 10, dd 9, and ds 6. Our last 2 children were adopted. Our daughter was adopted through MI foster care at age 5. She and our bio daughter are 4 months apart. Our son was adopted from XuZhou, China at age 4.

We are a licensed foster famiy and big animal lovers and have a house full of mostly rescued pets! We've been homeschooling for 9 years. We're Catholic, eclectic, literature loving homeschoolers! I've read posts off and on for years and I'm looking forward to joining in on conversations!

Hello! My name is Nicole and I am mom to three boys, ages 6yo, 3yo, and 1yo. My husband and I are brand new Catholic converts, only 3 months old . Our sons were just baptized on Father's Day. Let's see...I am mostly a product of public schools, but begged to be homeschooled my last three years of high school. My husband went to private school and then a private Catholic boarding school in high school, so we have the full spectrum of educational experiences. After taking advantage of my mother while homeschooling, I promised I would never homeschool my own children. But then again, I was headed for college and thought if I had kids, I would be a working mom. BUT life happens, and here I am many years down the road, a stay-at-home mom homeschooling my own boys and loving (almost) every minute of it. I've been reading the forum for a while on my Kindle Fire while nursing the baby at night, but now it's time to step out into the open and say "HI!"

Hi, I'm Bonnie, and I am thrilled to have found this forum. I have three girls, ages, 6, 3 and 6 months. We will begin "officially" homeschooling my 6 yo in the fall, i.e. filing paperwork -- we live in NYC. I don't know any other Catholic homeschoolers, so I am just so happy to have found this community. I can't wait to jump in and start reading, and hopefully contributing.

Hi Bonnie! Where do you live in NYC? I live in Queens and there is an awesome Catholic Homeschool group in Long Island Some moms are on this list but I am not sure if they check in that often. You can private message me. I would love to help you connect with the group - it is awesome. There are also some who live in other parts of Queens and Brooklyn.

Hi, I'm Lisa Edwards, a Catholic mom and homeschooling two children, ages 12 and 16. My husband Bob and I live in a country home in Central Illinois. Bob works in manufacturing and I'm "working' at home.
A few years back, there was living books group, not sure what it was called, where a author or illustrator was suggested. Well, I followed these suggestions, checking out baskets full of books and then reading them to my children. My girls learned to read this way, hearing quality language being read to them over and over. Next FIAR was our favorite. These days we use a full, but eclectic curriculum. Suggestions from Kolbe and MODG are used for history and seience. Looking forward to "meeting" all of you.

Hi, I think this is the right place for introductions!

I'm Amy. I have 5 boys ages 2-8 and a baby girl who is 17 months. I'm also expecting another little girl in October. I'm only really homeschooling the oldest 2 that are 7 and 8. I have 4 older sisters who are all homeschooling their children too. I am sort of the oddity because I don't want to follow a classical or more "school-at-home" approach. I love Charlotte Mason books and that is how I came across this forum. I am struggling with fitting everything I want to do in though.

I also work at home as Medical Transcriptionist. Not my ideal job at all - I majored in Art and Music in college but haven't found a way to work out of the home yet. I spent my childhood traveling with my parents we went all over. We are planning on making a big move in a year away from my small town where my family lives to a bigger city because that is what I prefer.

I am looking forward to learning more from everyone here and getting to know you all.

Hi, My name is Marti, and my children are 2, 5, 8, 11 and 12 with a new baby arriving in January.

This will be my 8th year to homeschool, and I find myself wanting to move away from traditional Catholic curriculum. However, I am not exactly sure what I am moving towards. It is mid-August and I do not have a solid plan for this school year.

Finding and joining this group (through Maureen Wittmann)is part of my exploration.

I look forward to talking with other Moms trying to figure it all out on this journey of homeschooling and Motherhood.

Blessings,
Marti

I just realized that my intro and my name (mom2eight)might cause confusion. I have 5 children at home, one due in January, and two grown step-children that I had the privilege of helping to raise from the ages of 10ds and 11dd. They are now 23 and 24. So I am a Mom to 8 total.

Hello,

I believe I came to your site last year at the suggestion of my local friend, S. (herdingkittens on here). Wow, I have just loved coming here!! Time to be involved now.

My name is Mary. My husband and I have been married for eight years and we have a dd5 (05.2008) and ds2 (02.2011). We recently bought a house in the country, near Lansing, Michigan. Lots of outdoor time! I was homeschooled 1st-12th grade (my mom started in the 80's when there weren't a lot of options and my mom was considered "crazy"). I remember field trips, weekly ice skating with other homeschoolers, hours outside to just explore, good books, and love for family. My mom and I have been having fun looking over my dining room table full of books. I will be starting homeschooling with my dd very soon. I love that there are so many more options available today then there were even 15-20 years ago.

Again, I want to thank all of you sweet mothers who give your time on here. What a wealth of information and support. I feel empowered to make my homeschool a beautiful place and that I can do this!

Welcome, Mary! I was homeschooled in high school, with my younger siblings many more years than I!

Things have changed in choices, haven't they?

Welcome!

Hello everyone! My name is Mary. I'm a convert to Catholicism (thanks to my amazing husband who introduced me to the faith) and live in Oklahoma with my husband of four years. We have three children- Shannon, 3, Natalie, 11 months, and a surprise due in February next year. We are amazingly blessed. Our house can be loud and chaotic at times, but it truly is full of love and faith- and that's more than I could have ever hoped for as a little girl.

I quit my job teaching preschool to be at home with the children and am planning on homeschooling when they're old enough. I really feel like it's something I've been called to do and I'm very excited about it. I stumbled upon this forum and am so grateful that I did! We don't live in a very Catholic area and I was beginning to feel very alone in my decisions to stay at home. I look forward to getting to know all of you better!

Hi all! My name is Devin, daughter of AngieMc. I got married in June and moved with my husband to Pullman, WA. He's studying for his Ph.D. in physics and I'm looking for work/writing/making our tiny apartment into a home. Oh! And I'm 18 weeks pregnant. We're thrilled...and just getting used to being busy. :)

I've been familiar with the 4Real board since before it took shape and feel like some of the ladies are aunts to me. I'm excited about being a part of it now.
