Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Would you try an acupuncture induction? They work well if babies are ready and they don't hurt either you or the babies. I had one in the afternoon, slept lso well that night and started labor at 6:30 the next morning. It was great!

Oh, wow! That sounds interesting! Where does one go to have that done? Just an acupuncturist? If that's what they're called....

I've been really struggling with this decision making, at times being driven to tears.

Finally decided it's time to do some research. Just found this:

The risk of stillbirth in twins increases slightly after 38 weeks. So if a mum hasn't already had twins by the time she is 38 weeks pregnant, a caesarean or induced labour is usually suggested. This is especially the case with identical twins, as sharing a placenta increases the risk of a baby being stillborn. That's why it's often recommended that twins are born by 37 weeks.

Looking like it's time for me to suck it up, buttercup. I really don't want to be induced. Everything is going so well. But, I don't want to risk losing a baby because of my desire, either. I suppose this is an opportunity for me to give up my will to that of others.
I don't know if they are identical or fraternal. They won't be able to tell me until they are born. The one ultrasound tech said that it looks like just one placenta, but there could be another one behind it.
There needs to be some element of surprise!
In any case, if they are identical, and the odds of stillbirth go up because of that, well,....I don't think I have much of an option anymore.

Syncletica, I have been praying for you. This is an area where I have had to relinquish almost all control because of my high risk pregnancies. One by one my preferences were dashed. I had a really prayerful Catholic OB who was saying God wants to be in control, and was quietly teaching me a lesson. I really had to continually say, "Not my will, but Thine be done." In the end, I never had a "birth plan" or anything. I had to relinquish all control and trust the doctors.

While I hate drugs and intervention, would love to nurse my child right away, be in less sterile environment, I went to the bottom line, which is having that healthy baby. And I just realized that my prayers needed to be directed for a healthy baby, few complications and me surviving the deliveries.

My 3 requests to God, that I could nurse my babies, (and even that was tested with my oldest) and no NICU and no sugar water. And with each boy, they were so close to putting them in NICU, first with breathing/grunting and then it stopped ON THE WAY to the Nursery, and my second had low blood sugar and just as they were about to give him the glucose solution, his numbers went up. I was so grateful.

For my second I had an epidural AND was put under, and I did have more difficulty recovering than with just an epidural (and I really HATE the epidural. Scares me to death!).

I had my boys between 36-37 weeks. Did they talk about giving you the steroid shot to help their lungs? another area of relinquished control, but boys tend to be delayed on their lung development, and I had gestational diabetes, another factor, so I had injections both times. And both times no NICU, so I was happy.

ANYWAY, I'm sure you don't want to hear all my stories. My point is put it God's hands. I am praying for you.

Yes, an acupuncturist would do the "inducing".
I would try to find one who is known in the homebirth arena. (you could call a few hb midwives to see if they know of anyone) Mine was actually a chiropractor who also did acupuncture (that was great because he could adjust my pelvis and hips before I went into labor).
So another way to find one is to find a pediatric chiropractor who may know.

It will take a little searching probably, but I found it really helpful.

Looks like my time is nearing.........1 cm dilated, cervix is very thin, head is down low, and pressure is getting unbearable. 36 weeks and 1 day right now. Feels like the water should be bursting anytime. Although that probably doesn't mean much.
And what a fine time for a painful hemorrhoid to rear up.
Oh well. We'll make it through. Hopefully with nothing overly embarrassing happening.
Should be getting to see my baby boys soon!

Grab a rubber crib sheet and sleep on it, drive with it on your driver's seat, etc. Bring a beach towel along. That way, if your water breaks, you're ready to cope.

(Yes, this is the voice of experience...a dear friend encouraged me to get the rubber sheet and put it in my bed...saved my mattress!)

Praying for you and your sweet twins. Won't it be wonderful to hold them for the first time? :)

I just got home a few days ago with my little boys.

My little guys were born on July 22 - week 36.

Tristyn Alexander 6 lbs 3 oz
Graesyn Xavier 6 lbs 1 oz

Labour was not typical for me. It seemed to start but never progress, but when it did, it did not take long. They were both born naturally with no intervention, other than one sac being ruptured when labour would not progress after my waters broke on their own at 3:00 am.

Thank you all for your prayers and advice! I'm learning what life is going to be like with very little sleep...

Congratulations!!! How lovely that you were able to have them naturally...and I'm especially glad that they and you are home together now.

Enjoy this special (if tiring) time with your sweet baby boys!

Congratulations! yes, get used to very little sleep for a little while. I hope your older ones are helping and you have some family/friend help. I did manage to sleep more than many twin moms once they were a little bigger by feeding in bed and dozing off a bit, sitting up. I had a big twin nursing pillow. I should have suggested that before hand, but if you don't have one yet, I would get one. The first three days I tried to use my "My Breast Friend" pillow but it really did not work for two and I was going crazy at night.
Double Blessings

I think this is the brand we had. Looks like there are several other options now like a "my breast friend twins". If you are nursing both at once, I never could manage the cross hold or whatever so I really needed the pillow to support them both in the football hold. When not in bed feeding them I generally sat on the floor against the couch so that I had enough back support. I always sank if I sat on the couch, even with pillows behind my back.

Okay, sleep, sleep, sleep! And eat, and drink, and rest when you can! Praying for you.

Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear an update!

Amanda, that double blessings looks fabulous. My Brest Friend was a lifesaver for me, but I know in tandem has special needs!

I hate the name, but I used a "husband" pillow (the kind with a back and arm rests) in bed for nursing at the beginning.
