Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

That is too funny, Caroline.
I have been thinking about a cover since Stacy mentioned it- it sounds like a
good idea.

So do you still have your King James version?

Yup, still have it! We have multiple translations and sometimes it's interesting to compare how the verses are differently translated in them. This is an online site that allows comparison of different translations, too. Used to be, back in the day, you just had to have all the translations you wanted to refer to on your shelf .

I also use and love the Douay-Rheims, but not everyone is comfortable with the older English phrasing. I'm working on my Latin by reading through the Latin Vulgate in an English/Latin parallel translation and on my German doing the same with a German translation. Any day is a good day to read the Bible!

Caroline I love the old english.. for the "poetry" of the words..

KJV - For now we see through a glass darkly
NAB - At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror

And apparently I was exposed enough to some scripture growing up to have certain phrasing in my head.. so nice to be able to do a web search and find the verse I want and then look it up in a Catholic translation (I have the NAB and Douay-Rheims bookmarked)

I feel this way especially about sections I learned as a child: Psalm 23, Luke 2, and I Cor 13. The Douay-Rheims, while not exactly identical, comes very close:

I Cor 13:12: We see now through a glass in a dark manner; but then face to face....

Ps. 23 (22):For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me.

It's true that when you learn those passages in your youth, they really stick with you. Makes me motivated to work harder on memorizing Scripture.
