Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So much waiting!!!!

My 4 year old just asked, "Is that really where he's going to come out?" and when I said, yes, he said, "He's just going to jump out??"

Yes, its papal peekaboo

I'm in tears So many wonderful surprises, but we should never be surprised with the Holy Spirit

Our first Jesuit Pope from Latin America

Oh the Papal Blessing And when he bowed his head, asked the crowd to bless him and the crowd went silent in prayer! So humble.

Sally, thinking of your girl there, oh my, can only imagine her jumping out of her skin.

My kids are all singing "Go Francis and Rebuild My Church" (from Cat Chat!) at the top of their voices.

We had made plans that we would all be together to watch the papal announcement - but I ended up being at my hair styists. She put her huge screen tv on and we watched together, both trying not to cry, whilst I was on my cellphone "watching" with my kids and husband.

Tears of absolute joy and thanksgiving here! Dh miraculously arrived home early from work, just in time to witness the white smoke pouring forth! So thankful to be part of the Mystical Body of Christ, witnessing and sharing in this historic day! We love Pope Francis' humility, the fact that he led everyone in prayer, then requested that prayers for him before bestowing his first papal blessing! Deo Gratias!

Melissa Claire I was just wondering what I could do to make dinner special tonight. Not quite 2 here yet so I have a bit of time if I hurry to do something.

And since we didn''t make a flag I made up a bit of soap paint and painted the front window.

I cried! I felt such a sense of peace when I saw him standing there, so humbly.

I have Pope Pie in the oven... it is really a frozen cherry pie. But, you know... red for the Cardinals, encircled by the white crust of the new Pope.

I am so intrigued by the way this Pope has lived... one room apartment, public transportation... even just one lung! My ds finds that amazing.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

Here at my house, Pope Francis has already inspired me to crank up the level on my 40 bags in 40 days project.

I had a lot of fun translating his Italian (while crying!) for Dancing Daughter while the EWTN folks were trying to figure out who he was...I think his prayers with everyone in the Square for Pope Emeritus (although he said "Bishop") Benedict XVI were a wonderful sign of things to come, as was his request for prayers from the faithful.

I predict a surge in unit studies about Argentina!

I like the comment my son made about Pope Francis. That he looks like a kind man with a kind face.

Melinda, this might be a good idea.. or at least a quick study on what a Jesuit is.. since I already had to answer that for my non-catholic friends on facebook.

We were blessed to just happen to check on things right as smoke was pouring out and bells were ringing! Spent the next hour glued to live EWTN over the Internet. Habemus Papam!

We just adopted our cardinals this morning. (And are starting our conclave lapbooks today...better late than never, right? ) We joke that our extra prayers made all the difference.

I know little about our new Vicar of Christ, but loved how he asked for all of our prayers before giving us his blessing in return. I tear up remembering that moment! Oh, what it must have been like to be there!!! God is so good! Looking forward to the unfolding of God's grace, wisdom, and love in this papacy.

Has anyone heard any clarification yet - is it Assisi (which was my 1st assumption) or is it Xavier (since he is Jesuit)?
