I am heartbroken, I love our Papa. He has resonated with me in so many ways. I am awestruck by his humility. Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for Us!!! This certainly puts Lent in an entirely new light.

Yes, totally shocked and still trying to comprehend totally.
Feelings that hit me which have been mentioned:
The fact that this is the beginning of Lent and will very much be a part of our Lenten journey and that we are in the middle of the amazing Year of Faith, which he will not see through...
I just saw that someone pointed out the Pope has chosen to resign on the World Day of the Sick.
Am fervently praying for the Church and the new Pope (as well as Pope Benedict - an amazing man!)

I saw this great suggestion online today. It is a brilliant and symbolic idea! I hope you feel called to do this - we could send reminders each day.
Quote:
February 22nd is the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter. So I suggest that we begin a Novena on Ash Wednesday, praying for the whole Church, for the Cardinals, and for Pope Benedict. And thus making it clear that we will express our gratitude by "diving in deep" into Lent, seeking to be humble faithful servants of Christ our Good Shepherd just as Benedict has showed us and taught us with clarity and charity. |

Here are two possible novenas:
NOvena 1
Novena 2

Mary, to piggy back on your wonderful suggestion, Pray More Novenas is also planning on a novena.
I joined this group from a suggestion from JennGM??? a few years ago when they did a novena for the Pope's Birthday. They are moving that novena up with the news yesterday.
This is a great group that sends you email during the novenas they are praying....no extra spam! I have email, John Paul, the man that has started this group and he is very sincere and devout!
Just and FYI for another opportunity to pray for the Papal Transition and to pray more novenas in general.

An additional though from the blog: The Sacred Page, suggest that the Pope may have based his decision on the writings of St. Gregory the Great.
Short read and interesting to ponder.....

Heartbroken, shocked, deeply saddened. I will admit to some feelings of abandonment. BUT. I do trust that he prayed and discerned and agonized over this decision, and that ultimately he was following the promptings of the Holy Spirit. And so I will continue to trust in Divine Providence, and look forward with some measure of excitement to the Conclave and our next Pope. Prayers for Papa Ben, his health, his safety.
I am very grateful for the eight years, though I would have wanted more and looked forward to learning more. But God's plans are not my plans :)
Joining you in prayer, especially this Lent. This is definitely going to be SOME Lent!! to all.
