Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Mine are lavender, which I love. I got a second fuzzy pair that goes almost to my knees and is Christmas striped. I'm wearing them now. My sil said I looked like an elf! (She meant it in a good way.)      I love the Muppets! Jenny Sal has great taste.

Let's see...

Biggest gift...Villaware Panini Press - I can't wait to try out some roasted vegetable panini ideas!!

Enjoying Christmas here! We got a Nook Color as a family gift. Even though it was my idea, I'm the one who uses it less so far. Maybe a second one would come in handy. I got a lot of gift cards this year. Looking forward to spending them. I have no idea where we are going to put all the new sets of Legos that the boys got! My brother and his family gave me their colds for Christmas! But, I'll take it since they live three hours away and it was just great to see them and spend two days with them! Oh, I got some comfy socks too! Socks were popular this year since I think everyone got some. I can't wear the ones with the non-slip stuff on the bottom because they hurt my feet. But, the other ones don't have it, so I'm enjoying those. I think the best gift of all was cash from my generous FIL. I knew we would get it, so I had allergy testing done this fall and started allergy treatments. I knew we couldn't afford it, but with the Christmas cash we would have enough. My allergies are horrible, so I'm sure I will be loving this gift all year long!! Bill came last week, so perfect timing!

Most practical: kitchen tools from Dream Farm. Click there as soon as you can. My dh found them. Awesome!

Most fun: Oven Squirrel!

Most spiritual: Rule of St. Benedict

And a bunch of other stuff, including 2 pairs of slippers because I always wear through them in 6 months!

It was very merry!

Anita

Hmmm . . . thinking in terms of my "rule of three" for giving to my kids (something to read, something to wear, something to play with) . . .

To read:
a book on organic gardening from my mom,
a book of poems by a poet named Paul Ruffin from my husband

To wear:
a pretty long red cardigan with a black cami to wear under, from my mom
some warm flannel pjs from my mother-in-law

To play with:
a porch swing!!! (really for the whole family, from my husband. And the weather was actually nice enough today that my mom and I sat on it for a long time)

And for the "most spiritual" award: a beautiful handcrafted statue of St. Therese, in a little rustic wood shrine with a blue-tile background. I love her, and she's on my front porch already, to welcome people to what may henceforth have to be known as The House of the Little Way . . .

And chocolate.

Sally

PS: Here is my St. Therese statue. I love this artist -- a friend of mine sells his work locally, and I've just been longing for one of these pieces . . . or more than one . . .

Most expensive - definately the new corelle place settings and flatware dh and I got from his parents. I got to pick it out, I got the Splendor pattern. We're using the corelle but put away the flatware.. so that I have a nice set to pull out, we have plenty of ends and bits of other sets for everyday.

Most "smelly" - a lovely coconut lime body butter mmmmmmm

Most colorful - Scarves from my dh (we'd looked at them at Thanksgiving) one is a guazey light green.. one is a silky thread crochet look in white and red and bright pink and coral. and one is more of a wrap in a silvery black.

The warmest - another wrap (like a pashmina) in a soft cozy brown. Totally unexpected since I'd decided to start trying out wearing scarves AFTER it was purchased for me (when my mom and sis were on their trip).

The most fun was seeing my kids get super excited about recieving books.

Oh and my kids were given a gift of $10 each.. dh and I pooled the money and got them 2 new waffle irons and a big electric griddle and they LOVED it. We of course had to have waffles on the very next morning.

And we've saved the gifts from my BIL and SIL for Epiphany. SIL loves to buy stocking stuffer type of things and the kids get buckets or bags full of stuff.. she loves doing it.. and we don't mind.. but we also decided it would be more fun and less overwhelming to have those on Epiphany when they're not competing with everything else.

My Dad just got us a pannini press too -- culinary I think. We are just learning to use it. So far we really like it! We've only used it for sandwiches. I'd love grilled veggie ideas!

Most practical - new kitchen scissors that can cut metal and window screens and all kinds of stuff I'll never cut...but will also stay sharp and help me cut open annoying packaging.

Big gift - there are two. My parents are giving us a generator (hurray!) and my husband gave me four place settings of our stainless flatware - so now I have enough flatware to go around my big dining room table when it's filled with friends and family.

Prettiest gift - a lovely silver chain from my husband.

Most surprising - a mixing bowl scraper from my Food Network addict daughter. She swears I'll love it.

The best gift of all (besides Our Lord, of course!) is the wonderful visit we're having with my brother-in-law and my two youngest nieces. We have several days together - they're great houseguests, they eat all the food I cook (I feel flattered!) and the girls are lots of fun. Tomorrow we take them into DC...let's hope I don't get us lost!

Favorite Gift - Dinner out with my DH and tickets to see Beauty and the Beast performance. It was wonderful. By the time we got to the big city, had dinner and watched the show it was 8 hours of just DH and me. Bliss! (Of course, during dinner I kept thinking about how my oldest ds would love the food and during the show I kept thinking about how my dd would love the show, and I obviously had to check in with the kids on a regular basis to make sure everything was going okay, and the topic of conversation was the younger boys .... )

Practical: Set of new pots from my parents

Beautiful: Monet calender from dd

Surprising: I didn't get a book from dh- not one! It was a refreshing change! He purchased a great set of grape coloured leather gloves from MEC- a nice gift when Nativity found us at -40 degrees!
