Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. We are so, so grateful for everyone's prayers.

This is the update I've just posted on FB.

Just back from Great Ormond Street where Beatrice had ultrasound, x ray, blood and urine tests. We met the doctors who were wonderful. Took time to explain everything, were very clear and very supportive.

Back again on Thursday for MRI under general anaesthetic. Later a biopsy also under GA and possibly bone marrow extraction (?).

The tumour is 13.5 cm by 7 cm.

They can't give us a prognosis until the tests come back. Best scenario is that it hasn't spread and can be fully removed by surgery. Worst is that it needs chemo, radiotherapy...

Throughout it all Beatrice was amazing, 'chatty', charming and calm. She barely even cried during the (lengthy) blood tests.

Meanwhile we have been showered with love and practical help. We feel truly blessed and supported.

Our wonderful friend Moira has set up a website called www.helpbeatrice.org.uk where we'll post updates also. Our wonderful friend Clare is coordinating all the many offers of help we've had.

Our hearts are full. Please keep praying.

My prayers definitely continue!

Little Beatrice has been so much on my mind. Thank you for the update.

I have also walked down the road of serious illness, tests, uncertainties, treatments, future unknown with my own daughter. Life is never the same.

We will keep the prayers coming here. God bless you!

Beatrice had her MRI today, and Elizabeth asked me to post an update. She writes:

MRI went well but it's still unclear where the tumour is coming from. Latest is that it may be either a hepatoblastoma or a germ cell tumour. Tomorrow they will do a biopsy after another ultrasound to try to determine the origin. If the liver, they have to go through the liver to get to it. Then they'll put a line in to her so that she can start chemo, probably next week.

Please keep the prayers coming!

Sally

Another update from Elizabeth, from yesterday (sorry I'm only just now posting it):

Biopsy done, central line in.

Beatrice has come round from the anaesthetic extremely well. Within half an hour she was wriggling to get down and play! She has also guzzled a Lindt bunny (my dietary strictness is out of the window).

However, I've had a long chat with the consultant and am just processing the news. The tumour is almost certainly either hepatoblastoma or germ cell tumour. If it hasn't spread to the lungs, the 5-year survival rate is excellent. But there are significant side effects to treatments for each. Hepatoblastoma chemotherapy always leads to hearing loss of some sort. Germ cell chemo risks secondary cancers after 7 years, and lung damage.

CT scan on Monday (again under GA) to see whether there are mets in the lungs. Chemo will start end of next week or soon after.

I am particularly praying right now for NO spread of the cancer, and especially not to her lungs.
