Blog post: Happily married. Would *love* to hear your comments on this one
How's your week going?
Do you get to see 4Real members IRL?
If you haven't had a chance to join in a Wednesday Shout Out, would love to hear from you .

I have met 4Real members IRL, many of them, and it's been so great! I've had great friendships come from this board. The only downside is so many are so far away. But some friendships have stayed the test of time -- I just was chatting with a friend yesterday who lives about 30 minutes away, but we met here first!
In July JenMack, Suzanne, and I went to Denver and got to be with Mary M. I have met Mary before--her family came through VA and stayed with us! Mary is a gracious hostess, so much fun. And Suzanne and Jen are just as lively and wonderful as they are online!
July was my latest 4Real meeting, but I'm hoping for more. Betsy might meet up with me soon. And I'm seeing Caroline (Stellamaris) on Thursday for dinner!
We had a wonderful week's vacation at the beach in North Carolina. Yes, off-season, but we had beach and water time every day but one. It was a week of nature study and great family time.
I'm still recovering from the trip. Haven't caught up with putting away everything.
I'm almost done reorganizing my books, at least on the main floor. I need to touch every book and purge and organize more in my picture books and adult books, but I'm feeling much better now seeing the purge, seeing floor space, and seeing straight shelves.

I met Betsy (briefly!) at our Charlotte Diocese's Eucharistic Congress last month! She is lovely, and so are her rosaries and chaplets. And it's been some years now, but I met Angela (Angel), when I was still living in my hometown, but she wasn't. Now she's there and I'm not, and it still kind of takes me aback sometimes to be reminded that we know a lot of the same local people.
Getting ready to go there this weekend for the wedding of a former student of my husband's and dear friend to us all -- he lived with us one summer while discerning a vocation to the monastic life, which obviously he didn't turn out to have! His wife-to-be is a longtime friend of his but a recent convert to Catholicism who still struggles with aspects of the faith, so please keep them in your prayers as they begin their married life.
Last night I took the kids to see All's Well That Ends Well -- one of the Shakespeare's Globe On Screen series. It is rather an adult comedy, as I'd forgotten (and let me tell you right now that E. Nesbit's retelling doesn't set you up for the adult-ness of it -- my 8yo kept asking when the guy was going to "cut a lock of the girl's hair," which is . . . not exactly what happens in the real play, though fortunately what does happen happens offstage, and all the innuendo was lost on said 8yo and her 10yo brother.). Still, the production was FABULOUS, and seeing the actors onstage, as opposed to the "real life" settings of movie versions of the plays, was very exciting. The staging was energetic, with no dead time as scenes changed -- the five acts went by in what felt like a flash. And the sense of the closeness of the audience, and the actors' interactions with them, was really magical. The whole thing felt very magical, in fact. Much Ado About Nothing begins its US showings next week, and we definitely plan to go back.
It was a late night, so we're still fiddling around at 11 a.m., but in a few minutes we're going to do Morning Basket. That may be all we do today, as we get ready for our long car trip tomorrow, during which, people have promised me, they plan to do lots and lots of math and writing. We shall see. Our college daughter is riding the Megabus overnight from Dallas to meet us on Saturday morning for the wedding -- at least, I hope she is. She's got midterms, a research paper, and other projects weighing on her, and I told her I'd be glad to eat the pretty negligible cost of the ticket if she realized she needed her weekend to work. Tough decision, though -- this friend who's getting married has been like her big brother, and she wants to be there. So we'll see about that, too.
Oh, the new round of coffee's up. Time to go read some books with some people.
Sally
PS: If anyone's ever coming through western-ish NC, give me a shout, especially if you want a tour of Belmont Abbey College.

Have a great visit with Mary!
As for me.......I have LOTS of IRL meetings with 4 Real-ers.......they make the best of friends!
In fact.....my best friend of all, I met at Catholic CM/4Real over 13 years ago.
Somehow, though, Angie....you have always eluded me.
I hope to remedy that someday.......the kids still want to take our trip to the South.....who knows when that can happen....

I've met several 4Real friends in real life - lovely ladies, every one!
I often wish I had more time to meet everyone - I am within driving distance of quite a few members - but I know I'm not the only one with a crazy schedule, so I'm content to let God take the lead role in planning IRL meetings. (Having said that, I've also been known to drive into DC to meet people at museums, etc. Great fun!)
It's getting to be our most hectic time of year...countdown to regional dance championships. Dancing Daughter's schedule is filling quickly with workshops and lessons. I had to turn down a press trip yesterday, which was a bummer, but that's just how things go during this season.
We've also learned that Dancing Daughter's Irish dance company will perform at a very prestigious Baltimore venue next spring, so if you are local and love Irish dance, PM me and I'll send you details. (No pressure, I promise, just info!) We never dreamed that her love of dance would lead to this, but we're so happy for her and for all the dancers and musicians involved in this show.
I'm also prepping for an "appearance" on Blog Talk Radio next month (topics: transformative travel, student travel and Eastern Canada). Yes, I'm feeling the stress!
I think we should organize a flash mob...on Angie's doorstep. Game, Chari?

Angie, I hope that you have an exhilerating trip.
I have not met any 4Real ladies. i live in Canada. I only know of a few Canadian 4Real'ers but have never met any of them.
We have one more week of crazy busyness then we downgrade to busy for a few weeks and then I get to hide until April. I am so looking forward to that. We are not doing much/any school this week cause I'm just too plum tired to do anything serious.

How exciting to meet some 4realers!
Well roofing goes slowly here, still haven't finished the sarking but we really need to get the iron on this weekend!
Yesterday there was a bush fire less than a kilometre away so that was worrying. Last night we took a drive up the road and spoke to the Bush Fire Brigade fighters and they told us we were safe for the night, so slept better, all died down thus far this morning.

Met one IRL, and that was great!
We revived tea time this week. Beginning at 3 we pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, then have our tea and snack while I read a devotional story (or saint story, or Bible story when we are done with our current read). It has been a bright spot in my day.
This week we studied antlions in science. Feeding them was fun! I had no idea that their adult stage was a winged insect that doesn't eat. I love that about homeschool--I am learning all the time!
The round of birthdays begins this week. There is one every couple weeks through January now.
I'm struggling with purging. We moved the classroom upstairs, so it's a great time to go through everything, but I'm finding less time to do it than I hoped. It makes me wonder how much of this stuff we need if we are schooling just fine without all of it...
Much needed rain has come. We've had 4 inches in the last week. The downside is we might have to cut the lawn again.
We found an online foreign language program through our library. One of the language options is pirate! We be havin' a lot er fun with it.

I've met a few 4Realers, but it's been years ago. I'd love to meet more, but it never seems to work out. Living in Alaska makes it harder.
This week for us has been home improvement project week. We removed our old, inefficient wood stove, tore out the old tile hearth, built a new natural slate hearth (which I love), and bought a new wood stove, which we still need to install.
All I have to say is...Dang, those things are heavy!
Dh is away for a week so the final installation will have to wait for his return, though I really wish I could use it right now. We have several inches of snow on the ground and winter has officially begun! A fire in the stove would be so cozy! Oh, well, next week!

Jealous at all the friend making and meeting go on!
We are getting back into a groove after vacation, and my first order of business was to revamp our learning goals and books. I did some tweaking and removed some busy work to get me a bit closer to full-on CM. I'm excited!
Theresa, winter!? We are enjoying the fall color changes and cool, but still short sleeve weather. Hopefully our snow stays away until January.
Kids worked with clay today with a friend's mom making a wind mobile, pinch pots, and other sculptures. Oldest is working on a coil pot, so we'll head back over tomorrow for her to finish the project. Now we just have to find someone with a kiln.

I've met a handful of 4real-ers, and they were all so wonderful. And there are so many more I'd love to meet!
Our big news here is that we are trying to get our oldest two girls into a local Catholic school for next year (they will be in 8th and 10th grade). The last week has been chock full of meetings, phone calls, and all manner of scrambling to get a new learning disabilities evaluation for my oldest ASAP during the examiners' busy season! I finally found someone this morning - we may not make it in time to get her accommodations for her standardized testing in Dec/Jan, but hopefully in time for the applications to go in for the school, since she doesn't have any other real grades to go by. We need to show that she is smart enough to do the work even if she does need some accommodations. (OK, a lot, ). This school does not have a special LD program but takes bright LD kids and will help them on a case by case basis.
I'm hoping that when they see BOTH girls want to go, and that we have two other daughters coming up behind them, that they will see the potential $$$$$$ and let them in on this weird off-year!

I know one 4Real lady in real life and we reconnected thanks to this lovely forum. But, anytime anyone wants to travel to our lovely neck of the woods, you have a home here!!!!
It has started to cool off a bit, no more 90 degree days and the nights are in the 70's so we are all very happy.
I'm having some sciatica pain and I'm starting to feel that belly pains under the belly. I'm thinking of getting one of those belly bands. No real contractions though and drinking a ton of water.
Lots of prayers for all of you!

I've met several 4Real ladies and even Tim, Janette and family. I haven't been as active on the boards in the past couple of years but I do enjoy the friendships I have made here.
My husband thinks it's very strange that I do this, but I truly enjoy connecting with these women. Jenn, remember our visit? I hope to make it out there again sometime and squeeze in a visit.
Nutcracker season has started and is going strong. My oldest daughter is Clara this year! I'm so proud of her. Her confidence had been flagging of late but has been boosted considerably. I've pushed through my sew-er's block and have started working on the Sugar Plum tutu.

Love meeting 4Real gals....you have a connection right off the bat!
I met Christine a few years back and have loved seeing her at mass and at conferences/local events. Our back-and-forth glances-with-a-smile and little winks have made many-a-day for me! Have loved watching her family grow over the years.
Meredith moved from Idaho to Seattle a few years ago, so we got to meet and spend some time together, and loved having Violet around my girls! Now, however, WE have moved to Idaho ...so no more Hennings!
SarahM came over a few years ago, and now we're BOTH living in the same area again, so I'm sure a meet-up is in the near future. This time, we don't have to sit in traffic, so we're not as gun-shy!
Last year, Mackfam and I ventured to Minnesota to a CM Retreat...and it seemed so NORMAL to be meeting for the first time in the baggage claim area....b/c REALLY, when you've deliberated and gushed about nursing pads for many many pages....what on earth could be AWKWARD????!!!!
MaryM and her FAM came through Seattle last year, and my girls served lemonade and cream puffs on the front deck.........and Mary's poor son with ALL THOSE GIRLS!
And, the Denver trip this last summer was really great! So fun getting excited about stamp collecting with Jenn! And, LOVED laughing and talking with MaryM, Jenn, Jen, Aagot and Gwen (momwise) into the wee hours of the morning.
I think I SAW knowloveserve (Ellie) at a conference a few years back, but then my husband started a conversation with me and I lost her in the crowd.
So far, no 4real people in northern Idaho....but if anyone ever passes through, please pop by..... ....maybe on your way to Calgary???
We are getting settled in after moving from Seattle to northern Idaho the end of August. Love enjoying the fall in our new surroundings. Hubby starts a new job next week and we're getting back into a routine, as well as having fun with some new friends. WE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT HERE!
Fun hearing about everyone's comings and goings!

I've met up with Jen while visiting family in Alabama.
I hung out with Michelle Q and Margot at the Chaplet conference a few years ago.
I also have attended Michelle's FCL conference all three years she hosted, so I met lots of ladies over the years: Alice G, Mary Ellen B, Macbeth
And of course Jenn G
I've almost met up with Caroline TWICE , but I really hope to someday remedy that.

Oh, I do remember, it was a lot of fun! I still have those notebooks. I would love it if you would drop by! Sad to note that the Starbucks that was super close has been closed for a few years. Probably better for my waistline, but I wish my waist would respond to the denial.
Your husband was a total dear, and he didn't act at all that it was strange!
I have been so blessed -- I can't even list all the 4Real people I've met without sounding like I'm bragging or forgetting some names, but each meeting has been special and such a blessing. I've found that 4Realers are REAL and authentic and such marvelous women. I've been impressed and comforted and guided by so many discussions here, and in real life it just gets better.

I know it's Thursday, but I'm a little behind this week. We are enjoying the fall leaves here. A storm came through yesterday and it's cold this morning. My kids are trying to talk me into taking them ice skating tomorrow. I can't ice skate and the boys have never been, so I'm a little nervous in giving this a try. It's with local homeschoolers, so maybe it won't be that bad. I just pray for no broken bones!
It would be nice to meet up with some of you in the future. I think many of you would make great IRL friends!

I'm behind too, Cassie!
I've met a few 4Realers but it's been years ago for me too -- including Theresa and KC (It was so nice to have your family over! I was just thinking about it the other day.) I'm determined to get to Angie's neck of the woods and Chari's too. I've never been northwest and am itching to see Yellowstone, Yosemite, the sequoias and redwoods... Maybe someday. I'm itching to get to Alaska too, but not in the winter, Theresa! And Mimi, I'm ashamed to say that I have gone to your neck of the woods but never got in touch with you because I felt incredibly guilty for even thinking of taking time away from my family who we visit there. The next time we go I would love to let you know.
We've been tackling home projects here -- much yard work and some sewing. I've had workers here for two weeks and the floor is covered in a layer of dirt.

I am so excited to be able to SHOUT OUT what Angie posted. Looking forward to seeing her and her dh this weekend. We have spent time with them in AZ while visiting for baseball spring training. There is nothing like having a common bond of Catholic faith, homeschooling lifestyle, and baseball to link a family together. Our kids get a long great, too.
It is beautiful and fall-like here right now so am glad to be able to host my friend in grand style...
...and here is your heart singing emoticon!
A highlight this week was when we attended a showing of Maximillan Saint of Auschwich by Leonardo Defilipis & St. Luke Productions. It was very powerful and very fitting during this time of attacks against religious liberty. Here is the calendar - if it is playing near you I highly encourage you to see it (or on video if not live near you).
This evening, youngest ds and I are doing a taste test focus group and some beverages. These are kind of fun and we get paid for it. It's the first my son has done with me and he is excited (about the money ).
Tomorrow we are going on a field trip to the Da Vinci Machines exhibit on a field trip with our group. Then maybe having lunch with Angie.
Got to run. Wish you all could join us. I love meeting 4 Real friends irl and have been very blessed that I have connected with several on various trips and when they came through Denver.

I have been blessed to meet many 4 Real moms IRL! I love this group and these women.
Besides Lissa, Mary M is who I have probably visited with the most, and, Chari. :) But, lots of meet-ups when gals have visited here - (St.) Ann, Janette, Robin, Stef.
And, lots at conferences - Margot, Michele, Meredith, Gwen, Alice, Margaret, Diane, Irene.....I'm forgetting everyone.
Almost met Bridget. We were probably an hour or so away from each other, but couldn't make it happen. Next time, I hope.
Lindsay, I was at Michele's conference in '08. :)
So fun. Love meeting 4 Real moms.
If you're ever in San Diego, call me. We're usually good for a meal and a visit.
Have fun, Mary and Angie!
