Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I always cook my beans in a slow cooker!

It does help to soak overnight.

If you forget to soak overnight, it helps to do a quick boil on them before adding to the slow cooker.

If you forget to do that.. well.. they usually still cook fine by the end of the day!

Thanks everyone. I cooked a pot of black beans yesterday - and they worked out great. I have lots of little bags in the freeezer for quick meals.

I have never sat down to figure this out, but with grocery day coming up I think I'll do just that.

I revamped the budget today and my grocery budget is $715 a month for our family of 6 (including toiletries, diapers, paper products, drugstore needs, etc.). That's about $3.90 a day per person. I hope that isn't unrealistic, seeing as I need to buy everything at the store (no garden, no extra freezer for bulk purchases). I'm thinking we will be eating lots of peanut butter or beans/rice meals. I'm a bit scared, but what can you do? If the money is not there, it's not there, kwim.

Mommy4ever, do you remember the website you were browsing?
