Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The other looks just like a "danish" with a piece of dough for the cross -- I know they make that kind (don't know the name) in Austria

This isn't the greatest picture, but could it be the Viennese tarts? The piped dough on the miters looks a lot like these.

Helen Mcloughlin in My Nameday--Come For Dessert recommended a cookbook called "Gourmet's Old Vienna Cookbook" by Lillian Langseth-Christiansen. It's got all the pastries, but the problem is I don't have pictures for all, so I'm entering names in Google Images to see if the picture matches up.

The flat cookies look like a Linzer type, or in my Betty Crocker's Cooky Book it's a "Filled Cookie" (what a non-elegant name!).

The other cookie could be a small version of a Linzer Torte.

Here's the definition of linzertorte.

But since it's Germany/Bavaria....we might be barking up the wrong tree.

I found the Viennese tarts by looking for Austrian/german traditional cakes. I think the middle cake looks like it's piped. That's why I picked the tart.

the pastries in the picture look pretty much like some of the standard sweets you get around here, only with a mitre shape. I would imagine the ones left and right to be simply jam cookies, i.e. two sheets of German shortcut pastry, murberteig, with a layer of raspberry or strawberry jam in the middle and then either glazed or dusted with powdered sugar. The ones in the middle are a variation of "Ochsenauge", bull's eye, which is essentially shortcut pastry layered with jam and surrounded by a ring of piped marzipan dough. If you need a recipe for the murberteig dough and the ochsenaugen let me know: i definitely have a recipe for the former and could probably find one for the latter.

Oooh, ahhh, terrific! Thanks Stef, and thank Alberto. I would be interested in recipes if he is willing to pass them on.
