I love reading everyone's news! This week I've really enjoyed getting back into the swing of cooking, after too many weeks (no make that months ) of catch~as~catch~can meals while caring for mil, then welcoming two new grandbabies into the family! I'm reclaiming my role in the kitchen, though I love sharing it with dc ~ very able cooks who have kept us all well fed during my hiatus!!!
New pans for my bday have been an absolute joy to cook with (anyone out there considering a purchase of cookware, do yourself a favor and invest in the biggest single pot or pan you can manage from Anolon ~ they're an absolute dream to use! Amazing size and quality on some of their open stock pieces!) I was even inspired to braid a loaf of bread for the first time ever yesterday, using a French Bread recipe dd sent me ~ a thing of beauty and soooo delicious ~ I couldn't stop exclaiming over the crumb and the way the crust crackled when we broke off a piece! I found a video clip of a Frenchman braiding with 3,4,5 & 6 strands which was fun to watch and very helpful! Braiding Bread Yummmm!!!!
Orders purchased for the upcoming year are gradually streaming in! I'm getting very excited about starting our 23rd year! Only two years yet to go! We will have finished with our youngest while celebrating a quarter century of living, loving and learning together!!! I'm not sure whether to cry or cheer ~ probably both!!!!!
Thank you so much for making Wednesdays such a joy to look forward to dear Angie and friends!!! Sending up a Memorare for all the intentions you hold dear in your hearts!!!

I guess I'm the late West Coaster so far today . No doubt, I'm also usually asleep by this time; but dh just went out to the gym in the efforts to stay up late anticipating late night shift tomorrow, so being the good wife I stayed up watching some Netflix with him before he left.
It always amazes me how much I miss when I'm not near a computer for a day or so
The kids and I had a picnic lunch with Grandma at the park yesterday and it was an awesome day. Not to hot just right, lots of ducks and some new fish. One of my son's got very comfortable stepping on rocks to get a good look at some of the new fish in the pond and wouldn't you know it ... he fell in! This is a very small park pond so he wasn't hurt or anything just soaking wet the rest of the time there.
My girls have also discovered Play Alls. Anyone heard of these? (if you have forgive me technology moves way to fast for me ) Our library is starting to carry them. They are audio books but they come packaged like an MP3 player just for the one book. You just need to put a AAA battery and plug in your head phones. My girls are loving these for listening too in their rooms before bedtime.
I've also been busy working on a crochet Dolman sweater for myself. Extremely easy pattern. This is the first time I'm attempting a clothing item for me. Accesories I think I've mastered...clothing...I'll let you know when I'm done
Well, yes it is past my bedtime and I'm not waiting up for dh. Good night from CA

Do I count even though I didn't see this thread until this afternoon? (Thursday?) I have been keeping my head down lately and just trying to keep up with life around here. It seems to be moving so fast!
--------------------------------------------
Re: blogging... I have always felt discouraged when I felt like no one was reading, because although I can say, "I write for me," really I write to communicate and sometimes I am a poor listener for myself. Plus I like the interaction. I came to the conclusion that I would just write because I like to write and I would do it anyway and not worry if it seemed like all my words were thrown out into an electron desert. Occasionally someone will make a comment that something I thought flopped completely because of a lack of response really helped them... and then I'm humbled and realize I have no ability to judge (or choose) my own writing. Anyway, I do think people in and out of seasons for blogging, too, and I do miss the easy sharing (as in this thread) because blogging these days feels like it ought to more polished instead of just throwing up a bunch of "thinking with my fingers". In my head, anyway. I like it when other people think with their fingers.
-----------------------------------------------
As far as life here goes, we're in our 3rd week of school, and it's been both rocky and intense (in a good way). I think I have read a million picture books, but I find I'm having to rethink my approach with my 6 year old twins, who (as I was just writing in the draft of a blog post) "see all limits as a double dog dare". So I think my method this year might best be described as "heavy strewing."
My two older kids are at fencing camp all week, and have really been enjoying it. Tomorrow is the last day of camp and we're all looking forward to being able to watch them have a mini-tournament to see what they've learned. Should be interesting watching the Olympics this year.
My dh hurt his leg yesterday working out, so he's been home all day, working from the couch. (His calf swelled up twice its size and he's having to hobble around with a cane. Nothing I can say will keep him down on the couch for too long.) Nice having him home, but wish the circumstances were different! He's just annoyed because he has been trying to paint the outside of the house and build wooden shutters since late spring. The house is mostly painted and he just put a nice chocolate brown coat on the pieces for the shutters before he nails them together... and now he can't stand up!
My parents and my niece and nephew will be visiting this weekend, and so we're frantically trying to clean the house, too... almost impossible with my big helpers away all week and my dh on the couch. Oh well. I hope that my parents are coming to see us and not the house.
Don't want to even mention my garden. Everything coming out of it right now is strictly by the grace of God. Everything I planted died; everything that just sprang up out of the compost is all that has given us anything this summer. So I have weird tomatoes and surprise watermelons, but I'm finding I'm too busy to even get out there much... the birds ate all the elderberries. Sad, really, but I'm too tired to care much. I'm fighting hard to make August a bit slower!

Late here, too. Do we count?
I am looking forward to quieter times in August and also hope to do a ton of planning before we start sometime around Labor Day. I haven't been much of a planner these past few years and it has hurt us. Somewhere along my way of learning about Charlotte Mason and unschooling, I thought one didn't plan. I now see how very wrong I was. We did pretty well last year, but I have big plans for our plans this year. :)
Servant, you are an inspiration. Our oldest will be a senior this year and sometimes I can't believe we've been doing this for 12+ years! Then I look at my almost 3 year old and wonder how I'm going to do it another 12+ years. I am quickly advancing in age. Or, so it feels some days. :)
We may sneak off to the beach this afternoon. My boys have been watching countless old episodes of Tom and Jerry today and I need to get them out of the house.
I hosted a homeschooling high school meeting at my home last night and will host two homeschooling with toddler workshops next week. Off to seek advice about that in another post......

Jenn - You aren't the only one enveloped in home project madness! We emptied out the study/school room so I could paint the (bare concrete) floor and my husband could install trim. Everything that was in there has exploded into the main level of the house - ack! And I can already tell that having this room done is going to make me want to do this for the rest of the house! But I'm not sure I can deal with this level of stuff displacement and chaos during school. I had planned on starting next week, but since there's no way it will be done by then I'm rethinking my plans. I *could* still do it, but I'm not sure it is worth it... and I'm not sure that it is in anyone's best interest as I get crabby when stressed and surrounded by stuff!!
And you know, it had never occurred to me to blog for myself. I think that points to a larger issue - I have a hard time EVER doing anything for myself! I'll have to think about that. Thanks!
Amber
