Thank you all so much. I get a little shy and about the really special moments, but I appreciate that you are all excited for us.

Ahhh, the birth story! Since you asked....
On Divine Mercy Sunday I started contracting around 3 pm. Finally around 10pm things were regular and 4 min apart but with no pain. That's totally normal for me and I deliver after about 2 hours, so we went in. I had been praying and preparing for a natural birth with low lights, breathing, you know....
Well, military hospitals are a crap shoot, you take the doc who's there, and mine ended up being a "put in the epi, break your water, VERY high levels of pit" guy. I wanted to walk. Ultrasound revealed a 9 lb plus baby. For my husband's sake, I compromised with having my water broken because he wanted me to move things along. The doctor was happy because they anticipated 3 more deliveries and wanted me out of the way. They average 1 baby a day there.
I did ok for a while, offered up my pain, etc, but then the pain and the fear of a really big baby damaging me (my biggest was 8lb 10 and I've never had damage) overwhelmed me. I got the epi which praise God was just enough to allow me to not be in terrible pain and still let me labor in the position I chose. The labor position, I truly believe, let me deliver with control and not have damage. He wasn't quite 9 lbs.
I sat there reaching for him and asking to breastfeed for 40 minutes before they handed him over, and after that I didn't let him go.
In the end I have a beautiful healthy baby which is more than I deserve so I am very thankful. Next time (kids are already asking for twin girls) I won't make the mistake of letting them break my water. I'm quite jealous of those of you natural birthers out there....

Thanks for sharing the birth story, Rachel! I love to hear them! I'm glad that some of it went like you wanted. Why are some doctors so ? My girlfriend told me that at her hospital (where I delivered) the young doctors won't do episiotomies (sp?) anymore....I thought that was encouraging. Maybe the younger doctors will also come around to everything else. What position were you able to deliver in? Things went so fast for me that I was in a funky position, I think one of the worst according to Bradley, and I did have some tearing.
I love that you're already talking about the "next time"!
Natural or not, it is truly a miracle, isn't it! I'm so happy for you and hope you're getting some rest and lots of time with your little guy!

Erica,
I agree birth stories are fun to hear and tell! I always love to telling my happy ones to first time moms so they know that not everyone has a c-section without anesthesia like I heard before my first.
My doc told us he's retraining to be an oncologist. Maybe his aggressive approach will serve his patients better there?
I delivered on my hands and knees. I'm sure if I had stayed on my back and pushed it would have taken the 2 hours the doc guessed OR would have ended in the c-section he offered me initially when he realized that James was transverse. Rolling over took care of all of that. Just to show the doctor what he knew, I had James' head out before the doc got back into the room.
