It's much simpler to post about a blog, with a link, here and to discuss it here. Not only is it easier, but if we all start having conversations on blogs, I do fear the board will suffer.

That all makes sense...so,is there no way to know if someone has linked to your blog from hers? Seems like that would merit a note of thanks even if every comment does not. |

If they don't trackback you (track you back?) you won't automatically know. But you might see it in your site meter, or via Technorati's "who links to me" function (bottom of your right sidebar, Elizabeth), or thru TTLB, or you can always do a Google Blog Search to find yourself! LOL.
Blogger seems to have some sort of auto-trackback function. If you link to a Blogger blog, it shows up at the bottom of the post (takes about a day for your link to appear). Funny that Typepad doesn't have that capacity.

Not sure what's wrong....comments were showing up on my blog when I first started last week. Now, they are not. A couple of people have told me that they have tried to post a comment, but it didn't show up. I don't think I've changed any of the setting....at least not intentionally .
Any suggestions or ideas?

I odn't have a technical solution Donna but I will add to your database: I commented on "Jacob's Tree" yesterday.

I just sent Donna a p.m., but I'll throw this out here too. Could her Comment Authentication be set to required? Mine is on optional. This might explain some comments getting in but not all?

Thanks for your help, ladies.

Another comment question ...
I was just answering some comments on my blog and as I went to post one of them a verification test popped up. As far as I can see I don't have my preferences set for this so I was wondering if it's something Typepad does randomly. Ironically I haven't come across this when commenting on anyone else's blog - just my own!
Has anyone else noticed this - on their blog or mine?

Okay you typadders - how come...
On some of your accounts I can leave a comment (by logging into the TypeKey account I made) and some I cannot. For example, I left (I believe) a comment on Dawn's Mother's Day post, but could not leave one this evening on Jenn's Tortilla factory post.
And, I can leave a comment on Rebecca's BabyLove blog (and did so) but cannot leave one on her main Gypsy Caravan?

And a note. Blogger doesn't support Trackback but you can accomplish the same thing here:
Wizbang Standalone Trackback Pinger
I just did a test run to the Lissa's Carnival of Children's Lit and it worked. Although, it was more because I am really a techie at heart and had to test it than for real "Trackback" purposes - which I still really don't understand.

Speaking of comments, I hope all you ladies will forgive me for not commenting on blogs very much lately, and not responding to comments on my blog much. I do what I can, but I have been in deep water trying to integrate two new children into our home, and I am barely able to find the time to keep up with my own blog. I DO still read all the blogs daily, and this board, as it is my only "me" time activity (how sad is that!).
Anyway, just wanted to say I hope I am not coming off as rude.

Cici, I think I fixed that. I had my comment authentication set to "optional" on Babylove and set to "off" on a gypsycaravan. I switched the latter to "optional". Maybe now it will work!

Theresa, you could never come off as anything but sincere, thoughtful, funny and like the good friend you are! You have such a (blessedly) full plate right now and are doing SO much already with your family, really you are a wonder! It's always fun to receive comments, but we are all hardworking mums here with time for only so much! And btw, your comments always bring a smile to my face. (And yes I am having WAY too much fun with those font colors! )

Never! I don't think any of us think of ourselves as professional bloggers, therefore it is not our career or life, therefore our real lives still need living! We were anchored out for a while, therefore no WiFi, therefore fewer posts on my blog and this board!
I really hope others don't think it is rude.

One thing I read recently about comments on blogs -- the blogosphere (how's that for a buzzword ) is intended as a community -- much like the forums here.
Yes, you might not get a response to a comment or you might not always be able to respond, but it's still a good idea to TRY to respond or comment. It keeps the conversation going -- Jenn and I and Alice had an interesting "discussion" about a sweater on my knitting blog. That's an example of how blogs build community. |

I just got an email today from the president of Gak's Snacks, thanking me for my entry in my blog. They had come across it accidentally and were thrilled...and also realized they had just shipped an order to me. I thought this was so nice...just another extension of the community.

To comment on Blogger blogs, you click where it says "0 Comments" (or however many the post has.) Some blogger blogs will let you comment as Anonymous, but others require you to log in, which means you'd have to set up a Blogger account (but not necessarily a blog). |

I have not been able to figure out how to get a Blogger account set up without having to actually set up a blog. Can anyone tell me if, and how, they have done this? So many of you have wonderful blogs and I have not been able to leave my comments (for instance, Cici's post about turning off the TV and Willa's post about unschooling math ~ loved them both and wanted to comment but couldn't figure out how!) Thanks.

Well, the info. I entered this morning must have registered, because now I show up as a Blogger and can comment away.
