Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Your little girl has been on my heart throughout the weekend. Continuing to pray...

Thank you all for your dear prayers!
We just returned home this evening. We had to stay longer, because the doctors wanted an EEG done and then another one while sleeping... That was because of the epileptic-like spasms she had during the incident.

It is so good to be home.

It is strange, but I could hardly pray in the hospital. I couldn't find any words. I relied totally on formal prayers learned by heart, and realized I couldn't put the Memorare together in my head. So, I am even more grateful for all of your prayers!

I am finding the more people I talk to that there can be a big difference in what education you are given. For instance, we are taught by our Dr. and nutrition counselor to NOT use artificial sweeteners because they do still raise blood sugar but they do it more slowly and it is harder to does for. Not a problem for us since we don't use them anyway but every time Maggie is in the hospital (3 times so far this winter) they bring her a meal that is all sugar free with artificial sweeteners. I have to explain every time that we do not use them and that our Dr. and diabetes nutrition counselor who are part of the same health system as the hospital! do not want us to. They are just SHOCKED that we use real sugar and that we let her eat normally and simply dose her like her pancreas would if she wasn't diabetic. It's very frustrating.

How's Helena doing now? You've been on my mind all weekend.

I encounter the exact same problem here. They kept giving us diet yoghurt and some kind of diet margarine! I just sent these things right back and requested real food.

Michele, I just realized that I am prone to "beating myself up", because of what happened. I must be very careful. The fact that Helena could have died is very difficult to take right now.
