Early this morning Helena went into diabetic shock. Her sugar level dropped so low. Her sister was holding her while I gave her the glycogen shot. She is not yet out of the woods, she keeps vomiting... nothing. It was like an epileptic attack. She is calm. But I am not sure how this day will continue. Please pray for Helena and for peace in my thoughts, so that I may think clearly and respond quickly.
St. Jose Maria pray for us!
UPDATE: Helena had to be admitted for observation and blood sugar checks every 2 hours. The doctors told me I should have called an ambulance this morning. I really thought this was something we could handle at home. She needs to have her insulin readjusted and I need to have a more structured daily plan, to make her life a little less complicated.
She will be fine, I am confident.
Thank you all for your prayers. I hope we never need them again for such a situation!

Just now seeing this. Oh my goodness! Poor Helena!
Praying for you all. We haven't had to use the glycogen but I do wonder how I would handle it. We were told to call 911 if we ever had to use it.
God bless you.

What a terrible ordeal, Stephanie. My heart goes out to you. There is nothing worse than having a seriously ill child. You could and did handle it... it's always easy for someone else to say later that you should have done this or that as well.
I will keep your family and especially your dear Helena in my prayers.

I should have called 911, but in our first learning sessions we learned that it isn't a necessity. The doctors yesterday contradicted that information.

I am finding the more people I talk to that there can be a big difference in what education you are given. For instance, we are taught by our Dr. and nutrition counselor to NOT use artificial sweeteners because they do still raise blood sugar but they do it more slowly and it is harder to does for. Not a problem for us since we don't use them anyway but every time Maggie is in the hospital (3 times so far this winter) they bring her a meal that is all sugar free with artificial sweeteners. I have to explain every time that we do not use them and that our Dr. and diabetes nutrition counselor who are part of the same health system as the hospital! do not want us to. They are just SHOCKED that we use real sugar and that we let her eat normally and simply dose her like her pancreas would if she wasn't diabetic. It's very frustrating.
How's Helena doing now? You've been on my mind all weekend.

I don't post much, but I wanted to say that I'm praying for your girl. My son (age 2.5) has Type 1 so this tugs at my heart strings.
