I was wondering if anyone had ever been to this conference or another conference on the east coast that is CM based. The schedule looks very interesting and it is only about an hour from my parents' house in Greenville, SC so I could definitely make this work (if my mom will agree to some babysitting ).

I have never been to this conference, but it looks really good!!! A nice combination of Philosophy and Practicals....seems like emphasis on Practicals, which I like. I always enjoy reading the Childlight articles and have learned a lot from the website and journals over the years. Keep us posted on what you decide.

I am really hoping to go if my mom can watch the kids. She lives about 90 minutes from there. Fingers crossed!!! If anyone wants to go and share a room, let me know!!!

That would be so wonderful. Going this year was on my wish list, but a possible job change this summer just isn't going to allow
Oh, please let us know if any of you go. I'd love to hear your thoughts and any new tips

When you went, did you stay in the lodging they offer? How was it?

Yes, I stayed on campus in their logging. You stay in their campus suits. It's four separate bedrooms with a bathroom per two rooms and a kitchen in the middle. You have to bring your own bedding, which is a little bit of a hassle. Besides that they were clean and perfectly acceptable for the conference.
I had a friend say at a hotel one year and it was quite far away and kind of a pain. Unless you had pressing reason not to, I would definitely say on campus.

Yes, most everyone attending does. The food is quite good, much better than when I went to school. This is where you really get to talk to people and relax a bit...it's nice social time.

I am pretty sure that I am going! I am working on coordinating registration with our local CM group to get a discount.

It is rare for me to find a CM homeschooler! I would love to see a CM group in action...and in support of each other!

Perhaps I made it sound more dramatic than it is. I feel very fortunate that there is a thriving CM community in our area. We actually have three groups that meet with in 30 mins of each other and draw from a good area. We are currently reading the CM books. Unfortunately, because of my dh's traveling schedule I haven't been able to attend much. The discount is for anyone who groups three or more registrations together, it's only a savings of $10 each but it all counts, right!!!! This souldn't be a hard task...but you know how it goes!
I would WHOLE HEARTILY invite any and everyone who wants to use CM in their home to come to this conference.
What I love the very best about this conference is that it's about CM. period. It's not a homeschool conference (but their are HSing mothers there), it's not just for teachers (but their are CM teachers and administrators there and they can get credits for attending), it's not for professors and academia (but their are professors and very distinguished "experts" there), IT IS FOR CHARLOTTE MASON!!!!
I would love to have a larger Catholic community there and I would love to have more people attend so that we can keep encouraging each other all year long!
People travel from far away to attend this conference. There is a group that drives down from Canada every year and many people fly in from TX, CA and all over really.
So, who's coming?????????

I have nothing like that nearby that I know of. Sounds wonderful.
When I was reading the blog, the one area I wasn't too keen on is the one "revealing" her Quaker background and influences. As I'm not authoritative biographer, I can't really comment, but I'm not too comfortable with this theory.

I love your description of it, Betsy, and if I were ever going to fly to a conference, it would be this one! I love the idea of a conference on Charlotte Mason rather than simply homeschooling. It feels like homeschool conferences are a dime a dozen and rehash a lot of the same talks--this one really sounds different, and the panel descriptions on the websites have sounded fantastic. Getting together with others to chat specifically about CM sounds a bit like a dream come true. We actually do have a CM support group in our area, but it's a "non-demoninational Christian" group and not open to Catholics. I did just meet another local CM homeschooler online this week and we are trying to coordinate something at least with our two families, hoping that it will grow in the coming years. So exciting to meet others that utilize CM in real life. (Though I will say that this forum is a wonderful substitute! )

I really appreciated your description here, Betsy. I'd really like to consider going to this conference and meeting up with y'all one year. This year is out, but maybe next year? It has me excited and gives me something to look forward to!

She hasn't spoken before at the conference so it will be interesting to see what she has to say. I agree that some discernment might be needed for this talk....but I wouldn't let that deter you!
