Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have 20 chickens -- a variety. It's funny - I decorated my house with roosters and chickens looooong before they came.... said "no" to dogs "because I was doing babies and not animals" and all of a sudden 20 chickens are at my house! (and now goats, pigs, and cows...)

But the chickens are mostly easy -- let 'em out and free range. We've hardly lost any. We've lost *baby chicks* to snakes, and some of our chickens have been attacked by the neighbors' dogs but they survived. We've killed a few due to old age.

Although with the cicada brood this spring, our chickens have become wanderers. I *think* it's because there were no trees near the barn, so they went up towards the neighborhood to find luscious bugs by the trees??

So now I have the boys every half an hour or so "herd" them back to the barnyard! I don't know how you retrain a wandering chicken!!

Be careful if you're thinking about keeping chickens. There are ....negatives.

Let me just say, Mary, I am completely jealous of your hens! I don't think our city ordinance allows them, but definitely not our HOA. HOA, how I hate thee!
