I don't have any better ideas than what has been said here.

I do know that I have times where the envelope system is the ONLY way to go, for a month, many months or longer.

I am definitely praying for your family. We've recently been in a similar situation and we're uncomfortably close to being there again - have been very close for several months. I'm just praying that everything swings the OTHER way soon!

Well, we now have all the kids on board and they know how tight the budget is.(an important part of the plan) Hubby and I planned down to the last penny, we have our envenlopes labeled and they all have a little bit of money in them...

So I guess I am now headed into the next two weeks with determination to make this work!
