Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just wanted to share I've found a couple of new authors/series I'm really enjoying.
Mrs Jeffries Mysteries set in Victoria. The "master' of the house is an Inspector at Scotland Yard, unbeknown to him his entire staff led by his Housekeeper (Mrs Jeffries) assists him in solving the crime. So lovely, such camaraderie, oh and Barb I thought these would be quite suitable for your daughter.
The other series is Cora Harrison's Burren Mysteries. The main character Mara, the Brehon, is intelligent, kind and likeable. set in 16th Century Ireland, very well written and fascinating.

Annie

Thanks I'll check them out, I'm already on the last Burren book so I'll be after new ones. Do you know how much self discipline it took to teach and not read??

Adding some more recommendations of mystery series. I've just discovered and enjoyed a few British Mystery Series set in the 1920s.

I really enjoyed Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear. She is a very unusual woman for her times, a combination of detective and psychologist. She began her working life as a tweeny and through incredible good fortune life took her on another path.

I love Daisy Dalrymple's books by Carola Dunn. A woman from the British aristocracy, she marries a Detective Inspector from Scotland Yard and helps him solve his cases, not with his willing help

Kate Shackleton's books by Frances Brody has been another excellent find. Kate was widowed in the Great War. She turns her finding skills into a career as a private investigator.

Really liked all three leading characters from these series, and incidentally have learnt so much about the social history of this time period.

I have always been a stick-in-the-mud when reading any mystery writer other than Agatha Christie. That all changed early this summer when I discovered Alan Bradley!

His books feature an 11yo English girl, Flavia de Luce, as the central character who winds up solving assorted murders/mysteries. She is very bright and loves chemistry, which gets woven into her observations of crime scenes. I just LOVE these books! It was the sort of book that I tried to slow myself down reading, because I didn't want them to end!

If you do decide to check them out, try to start with the first book, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, and read them in order, as they do build on each other. His next book is due out in January! I can hardly wait!!!

In Christ,
