Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh, quick question! We had Amazon prime free as a trial during December and so were trying out the instant videos and both season 1 and 2 were free for Prime members. Its expired and we haven't decided to pay for a year or not yet. I just looked and saw that Season 3 episode 1 and 2 (which played as one last night) are up, but I can't see if they are free to prime members at this time or if everyone would have to pay. It would be nice to be able to watch the next day able to pause, but not if we would have to buy them.

So, any prime members, is season 3 included?

Amanda, Season 3 episodes are not free with Prime currently - they are $1.99 per episode. But my daughter just pointed out that you can watch them (Season 3) for free on PBS online - current season only, so yesterday's is available (and you would be able to pause as needed). We were missing the pause (and rewind). Because you are right, it's hard to sit that long or if someone talks and you miss something you can't rewind.

Yes- sometimes it is hard for me to catch what is being said with the accents and the interruptions at my house.

I can't rewind, either. I love that I can watch again on PBS for free

Thanks Mary! And Lindsay :) That's too bad. I had remembered PBS but not sure how we'd work that since we stream directly to our TV, rather than sitting in front of the computer. THough if the pbs site works on my ipad we could stream it from there to the TV. My, the technology! Wouldn't it set the Dowager Countess' head spinning? Yes, its difficult to get unused to the pause/rewind aspect of tv. Although the nonexistent bill for over the air broadcast is certainly nicer than the monthly cable bill, so its a small sacrifice, right? :)

We had Three Berry Lemon Trifle for the premiere :)

And here's a sweet article: Our Downton Abbey Family Ritual

And, and, everyone in our family would graciously accept Lavinia's money .

Love,

What Mary isn't pointing out is that helping Downton with that money doesn't mean that the family gets to live large. It's employing so many people. It's the lifeblood of the community -- a good use of the money.

That is true, Jenn. Downton is a major employer.

And I wonder how I would feel if my dh had the money to save my parents and future home but just wouldn't . Might make me kind of crabby.

With Edith's wedding, I wonder if Cora's mother will extend her stay or come back for the wedding? I will miss her if she's not in the next episode.

This was brought up many times in the last seasons, but it wasn't mentioned in this episode. I really think Mary sees it as living large though. I actually had forgotten that Downton provided much employment and I was made to think negative at Mary for not changing with the times. I guess that is what the writers were going for. I think poor Matthew has some issues he needs to work through. I understand what he is saying, but he needs to work through his issues and accept the money. That is what Levina would have wanted. Well, that's my take on this story.

Love,

Angie that is so funny...

It does do a good job of giving a plot summary in VERY condensed form .

Yes, "poor Mr. Pamuk"

The one thing that the short overview did not convey is the real evil of O'Brien and Thomas - because you really have to see all the little things they do and how they manipulate to get what they want.

But now O'Brien has to go and show her softer side... and make things less black and white. She really cares for that nephew of hers and definitely regrets the soap incident. That was so sad. Thomas started to show another side but back he goes to Mr. Meany.. easy to dislike him for sure!

I am wondering about Lady Mary's wedding dress. It was definitely 20's style and seemed a bit plain to me. But then I read it is covered with beautiful lace and crystals and cost $200,000 to make for the show, the most expensive costume yet.

Why am I not able to appreciate its beauty more? It should sparkle and shine, and maybe it does IRL but somehow that does not come across on the TV screen.
Maybe it is the lighting?

I love how elegant it is, though- such a breath of fresh air from the strapless gowns of today. I rarely see a wedding dress with any sleeves at all anymore.

My own wedding dress had short sleeves- not strapless. Anyone else have a nonstrapless dress?

We were discussing the dress as well. As she came down the stairs my daughter said - "It would be pretty if the waist was higher." She doesn't like the drop waist style of the 20's at all - doesn't think it is flattering. I think that is one aspect that makes them all look more plain.

Yes, I agree, that O'Brien is remorseful and it isn't as easy to totally dislike her. A bit of a redemptive storyline. But I certainly would not want to be on her bad side and now Thomas is which I like - they both need to watch out for the other - and they know it. I like it better than when they were evil twins in cahoots together.

Mine was not strapless - no one in the 80's was. Ladies who got married in the 80's, am I right? Instead lots of poofy sleeves - just like the hair!!   Think Lady Diana's dress. The strapless phenomena is really more from the last 15 years, around the millenium.

I agree about the strapless being a later phenomenon.

I got married in 2000, but I wore a vintage 1930s silk gown, so I had sleeves.

The dropped waist is what put it off for me. She didn't have a ladylike form in the dress. And I couldn't see the sparkle, either. It didn't look like lavish silk or expensive fabric to me.

Serial posting, but one last thought. Would a traditional family have had a family gown? That is also what threw me. Everything is about Tradition, but then they are modern in their clothing.
