Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You can make it up! Or just ring the bell for the maid to do the rest.

I was wondering how many of you watch this with your dh? My husband loves to watch series like this. Perhaps he's an oddity. Thank goodness for DVR, though, because football sometimes takes precedence.

I am happily surprised to say that my husband likes it too!

He was telling one of our sons about it and said "If I like it, it must be good."     I was happy to hear it because usually he watches things like this only because I want him to.

I DO have to sometimes translate for him as some of the accents are at times a bit thick (and his hearing is not good in one ear).

Agreed about the DVR because yes football can take priority though that's pretty much over now since the Saints, Broncos AND Packers lost.

Yes, all our teams are out, also, but my husband loves to watch football regardless.

I have started to watch the old episodes on your recommendation. It seems like the first one is a little awkward, but maybe it is because they are presenting a rather large cast?

ROFL... dh would NEVER watch something like this...it has been branded a girly-movie so I am on my own...which is fine for me! I need a January distraction, IYKWIM!

I got the Dowager Countess, but I though that this quiz I took earlier in the week was a little better. For it, I got Lord Grantham. Not that my result was better, lol, I just thought that questions were better.

Lindsay,

I had the same answers for both the quizzes.

Angi, the only reason that hasn't happened to me is because dh agreed to watch with me, and we haven't had a chance to watch the second one yet. Y'all have definitely introduced me to a new addiction, and just in time since I just finished watching Doctor Who!

We must be twins separated at birth, Lindsay! I got the same results as you...first quiz: Dowager Countess, second quiz: Lord Grantham.

Or do I have a split personality????

I prevent the total decline of my household, Angi, by only watching TV while I am folding laundry or knitting...at least that way I can justify it (a little!)

Dh and I are both hooked. We liked the first season, but are enjoying this one even more. Mary and Edith are both more likeable. Dame Maggie is still wonderful!

Embarrassed to say that I have not watched the first show of Downton Abbey. I hardly ever watch TV and honestly don't know if we even catch it. One Sunday evening I did click around for it and searched online to no avail.

Evidently I'm not trying very hard (or) I'm getting too many interruptions. Haven't found it yet.

Can anyone direct me?

I'm thinking of asking my family for the first season when my birthday comes round in April. Just hate being out of the loop cause I think I would really enjoy this series.

Cay- I hear you. I rarely watch Tv.... maybe once every couple of months.
Maybe that is why I am enjoying Downton so much.

My library also has the dvd for season one, so you could check at yours.

Also... I see that I misspelled Abbey in the title. If you search for Downton Abby, you will not have much luck. You need that "e" in Abbey.

I am off to fix my mistake

Thank you, Amy. I am sitting down to watch it right now.

Melinda, we have a niece named Abbey (with the "e") so it's become pretty much second nature for me to type Abbey rather than Abby.

Will Matthew walk again???

haha...Ok...It doesn't really matter if that is Patrick or not. Clearly Edith is taken with him...

I don't think the butler did it. I think someone else was involved. You will be sure they will make it seem like he did it for added suspense. That woman has made thousands of enemies...

Matthew will walk again...once he finds out who really loves him...and of course scandal will be involved...wouldn't you say??

I can't believe you guys got me hooked on this...

Aaack! I haven't seen this episode yet! I had to defer to the Superbowl last night.

My guesses:
It isn't Patrick.
Matthew will definitely walk again, causing all kinds of trouble for Mary and Richard (and whats-her-name Matthew's fiance)
Banks killed his wife accidentally in a scuffle, and left not knowing she was dead.(I'm hoping I'm wrong on this one!)

Hooray- I just found out that next week's episode is 2 hours
(Sorry, Donna Marie... but I feel your pain. I am also hooked).

I just can't believe that was Patrick last night... wouldn't he have been spouting all kinds of intimate family details to prove his identity?
I just felt bad for Edith.

Maybe O'Brien did in Mrs. Bates. She vowed she would not let scandal come upon the house. Maybe she did it to make up for causing Cora's miscarriage.
And the sad part is that she wouldn't have known that Sir Richard knows about the scandal as well, so it was all in vain. I wonder if that is the burning secret she wants to reveal to Cora on her sick bed next week.

Sadly, I predict that the Spanish flu will carry off Lavinia.

I believe that Matthew will be at least able to father children, though I hope he will walk again.

And can I just say that the scene with the Dowager Countess trying to find something for Isobel to latch onto was just hilarious?

That's my guess too. They showed O'Brien listening in on Anna and Bates talking at one point in last night's show and they've repeatedly shown she feels badly about telling Vera.

I said LAST week to my dd and dh that Matthew will recover --it's just too awful and he is a main character.

I think it was probably not Patrick but someone that had been friends with him.
