Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sorry T. I know it can be annoying when people pick apart something you are enjoying. I just can't help it with historical stuff if it's a time period I know anything about. If it doesn't ring true it bugs me the whole time. That being said I MISSED it last night. I hope I can catch it again --I need to check the listing.

I just watched it online at Masterpiece Theater during two naps.

I must admit, I liked it better than I started out liking the first.

After the observations on this thread, it is interesting to note that the ramifications of Lady Mary's indiscretion continue. So, it does seem accurate in how it portrays just how scandal at that time affected not just the entire family but the entire household and community.

AND, I like Mary better this time around. Perhaps she has grown up some?

It is TERRIBLY entertaining I must say

Oh, I totally get it. This is why I can't watch any medical shows with my dh (like House or Grey's Anatomy). I am trying to enjoy the characters and plotline, and he is constantly picking it apart for how accurate it is medically. I don't care! I just wanna enjoy!LOL!
However, I am really annoyed by scientific inaccuracies when I see them (Hello! Explosions in space would be totally noiseless!!! ), so I understand.

I am scheming now to think how I can get a dressing table to sit in front of while I rub lotion on my hands and arms . That seems the ultimate in pampering yourself- so elegant!

I enjoyed watching last night... though war scenes are very hard to watch... so completely sad and awful

It's interesting to think how the "scandal" these days would hardly have anyone batting an eye... Mary would probably go on Oprah and then get her own talk show or be on Dancing With the Stars...

We missed it last night...too exhausted from our Epiphany party. But it's on the DVR to enjoy...after the National Championship game.

How about some of these chairs? for the beloved vanity/dressing table? Out of price, but wouldn't it be nice. My grandmother had a chaise lounge and a vanity in a sitting room outside her bedroom. It's not that I would spend more time in front of the mirror, but I do think that having all my items like makeup, hair stuff (including blow dryers), jewelry, lotions...it would be a lot more organized if it was out of my bathroom!

I think that this must have changed when more bathrooms were installed in houses. If you share one bathroom, lots more primping has to go on outside of that room!

Check Craig's List. I saw this one this morning and I am SOO tempted. But I really don't need one.

I did see that they are replaying the first episode on Sat. before the second so I set the DVR to record it.

I have been thinking about those chairs since you posted, Jenn.
They are beautiful!

I had not thought of looking on Craig's list, but that is a good idea, too.

Now if only I could get the maid and the cook that seem to come with that lifestyle

LOL at the latest posts. My mom and I watch these shows because we oooh and aaaah at the furnishings. Never mind the dialogue and the plotlines, we want those pillows!!

Michele, my mom had a very similar vanity when I was growing up in the Philippines, except hers was cream colored, and had a glass top with storage beneath, where she kept her perfume and perfume bottle collection.

I bet it's rotting now in my grandparent's house (it was an heirloom from an aunt) where nobody lives, as the owners (my aunt and her children) have all migrated elsewhere. I don't wish it for me (no perfume collection here) but I wish my daughters could at least see it. They just did things more elegantly back then, didn't they?

Oh, and disclosure: I've watched all the eppies so far including the Christmas special, which you guys will definitely love. Can't wait for Season 3.

OK so I watched the two hour premiere and last night's episode and I have to say that I DO like this season better so far. Mary's character has certainly improved.

Maggie Smith is still my favorite --I love her expressions and quick one liners!

Mine, too! She actually sort of reminds me of my tender-yet-tough grandmother. I have a very fond spot for her eccentricities!

I am really enjoying the series. I'm totally hooked.

I love the furnishings, the wall treatments, the clothing and almost all the characters, except for evil Thomas and Isabel has become terribly annoying.

I watched all of season 1 in one night. It was very hard not to speak with a British accent the following day-lol.

AMY!! I was just lamenting to Tim last night that I didn't think any of my local friends were watching Downton. Did you see some of the LI ladies had a premiere party? We need to have a Downton party, complete with dresses and high tea!

I have not watched Season 1 but I did see parts of the first episode of Season 3 on Sunday and I think I am hooked! Now to figure out how to see all of the rest of it.

Which character are you?

See who you'd be. I was always worried I would have been a scullery maid, but I was relieved that I wasn't!

lol!
Your results: You are Mr Bates, Lord Grantham’s valet (Brendan Coyle). You are a patient, kind, salt-of-the-earth type. But sometimes your self-righteousness can threaten to engulf you.

Michele. I've tried to reply to you twice. Don't know what I did.

Anyway, I'll try again.

It was great to spend a little time with you last week. I always enjoy talking to you! So much to talk about. We must do it more. I wonder if anyone else is watching around here.

I was the Dowager Countess! Goodness! Evidently, I "don't tolerate fools gladly " (that's true ) and I dislike any discomfort. Must be almost time for Lent to correct those dastardly traits!

ETA: kind of explains why she's my favorite

I am Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery). "You yearn for glamour and excitement."

LOL!!

I have decided that it is your guys' fault that my house has fallen apart this week, while I foolishly watched way too many episodes of Downton Abby, which I had never heard of until I saw it here. Ok. It could be my lack of disciple.
