Nancy,
Absolutely support them in pursuing a second (and maybe a third) opinion. A good doctor will encourage that...I know that a second opinion saved my life once and then enabled me to protect my fertility the second time.
We're still praying!

Praying for strength for little Maggie and her family (and yours too). Definitely find second and third opinions for the chemo. I'll pray for something effective to appear to Maggie's doctors that will have fewer side effects.
Praying for a long life for Maggie!

Nancy,
Still praying for Maggie and her family.
I strongly second what Elizabeth said about second and third opinions. My father is dealing with liver cancer, and has found that the surgeons/doctors at different hospitals can vary greatly as to their recommended paths. Early on, he went through a whole procedure (radio ablation) recommended by his first doctor that turned out to be the totally wrong thing for his tumor size/etc. And in Houston, the drs. said, "Every hospital will tell you the same thing." Well, they were wrong! I'm so glad my dad didn't listen!

New update.
Maggie's parents met with their primary care pediatrician today (I babysat 4 of the 8 girls they have living at home...we had fun, but now I'm really tired!). He told them he'd help them do research and get 2nd and 3rd opinion referrals and started to work on that right after they left. That's hopeful (you have to remember we're up on top of Mt. Nowhere, so they could have been told to live with what they had and that would have been the end of the quest for more opinions). Also, they were able to have the pathology report sent to THE doctor (Feingold in TX) for this type of infant liver cancer. That's great...who better to confirm the findings of the UVA doctors?
So, they're moving ahead as best they can. Overall, this type of cancer has only a 60% survival rate, but if they get the whole tumor at stage 1, that rate goes up to 75-80%. The chemotherapy decision is a risk vs. return thing. It's agonizing...is it worth exposing Maggie to the pronounced risk of deafness, blindness, inability to digest food, sterility, etc., to improve her survival chances by a few percentage points?
Maggie's parents are handling things well so far. They're focusing on family time and research on Maggie's condition, figuring that they're well able to catch up on schooling once the decision's made. (Most of their girls are homeschooled, but 2 attend the county schools.) Maggie's her typical solemn self...she seemed to enjoy our outing to the playground today, and is eating, crawling, pulling up, etc. as if nothing had happened at all. She's such a blessing. My son's friend came over today (to counteract all the "girlie-ness") and instantly fell in love. My poor son was stuck watching his buddy coo to a baby.
Your prayers are helping, I just know it. We're so thankful for your intercession on Maggie's behalf. I read your postings and feel so joyful, knowing your powerful prayers are heading Heavenward.
Rest assured I'm passing on your advice to Maggie's parents.
Thanks again,
