Oh what sad news, Nancy - especially with the family history you mentioned of having lost an older child. We will pray fervently for little Maggie.

Another update...Maggie's surgery will be this Thursday (time TBD). They're not sure yet if she'll need chemo.
A tangential intention...Maggie's sisters will be in the care of a family friend who is 9+ months pregnant. Please pray that she'll be able to look after all the girls (there are 7) and/or be able to call on the backup provider quickly if she goes into labor. This is more of an issue up here than it would be in a city, as our closest hospital is an hour away.
By the way, Maggie's full name is Margaret Mary...please ask St. Margaret Mary to pray for her namesake.
Maggie's mom and dad asked me to thank you all for your prayers.

We have been praying here as well - just every time I started to post, someone had needs. We will continue to pray for Maggie and her family and those that are supporting them through this.

Finally, an update...
The surgery went well. The doctors think they got all of the tumor. The margins were clear and the lymph nodes they checked were also clear. Unfortunately, Maggie will have to go through chemotherapy in July. I'm very, very grateful for your prayers...Maggie's home and recovering as well as can be expected.
Sorry to take so long to update you; I've been visiting family in California and have thus been unable to post here.
Thanks again...more updates will follow as things progress.

New update...
Maggie's parents met with the chemotherapy docs. Maggie's only 11 months old, and the docs are prescribing the same treatment (a mix of 3 kinds of chemo) that an older child would get. Side effects can include hearing loss, infertility, etc., because small children are still rapidly developing, and the chemo can attack healthy systems of their bodies. Needless to say, Maggie's parents are concerned and hoping to find a doctor who might be able to recommend some "lighter" chemo, rather than a four-month course of three chemotherapy drugs. A new European study recommends using only one type of chemo at a time, but the docs Maggie's parents are talking with dismiss this idea and have told them that "all" doctors in the USA will recommend the same process that they have outlined.
Please pray for them as they struggle with all of these decisions and try to plan for the four months of chemo. Apparently Maggie won't be able to go anywhere (church, daycare) for the duration and that could present a financial hardship; Maggie's mom works full time and her dad works two part-time jobs. Also, please pray that our church community becomes more willing to help with these logistical problems (so far all the babysitting and errand-running help has come from non-Catholics, with the exception of Maggie's godfather and his family, grr!).
Your prayers are so comforting. Thanks for all your words of encouragement.
