Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was reading up on using castor oil to induce labor and came across some stern warnings that whatever effect the castor oil has on YOU may also do to your baby (or babies in my case) - and several cautionary comments about the babies and meconium within the sac. The last thing I want to do is to put both myself and my babies at risk.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? ... just want to make certain that it is safe before I proceed.

There's lots of info Here Chris.. it's archives from midwives sharing.. and I think there's some on castor oil.

But because it's more like one of our boards here.. you have to read all the way down to find all the info.. it's not all collected in nice neat categories.

Thanks, Jodie!

Hope you find just the right encouragement, Chris!

I had success with castor oil mixed with orange juice then eating pasta - whole wheat maybe? It was a blur...but it worked!

Praying and soooooooo excited for you!

Love,

Well, for what it's worth, I've decided not to use the castor oil after all. From what I've managed to read, it's just too risky. Many accounts of the baby having a bowel movement resulting in lung infections from taking in the meconium.

... praying that my other methods work. So far I'm having contractions, but they're neither consistent nor intense.

I think I'd much rather do peanut butter cups than castor oil.

My memory is faulty about how well this worked, but I did read something about walking up a steep hill and/or stairs *backwards* and know I tried it.

Prayers for a good labor, Chris. Even if you do end up starting an induction, things might just kick in on their own, with the induction being just a bit of a kick-start. This is a very exciting day!

Peace,
Nancy
