Not specific to a particular day, but I know some people like to save the 3 Wise Men until after Christmas and then move them a bit closer each day until the Epiphany (Jan 6).

Shannon, we do this. In our Parish, groups of children go out dressed as the 3 Kings and a star carrier = 4 children, to all the homes in different neighborhoods collecting money for charity. They carry blessed chalk with them and after singing and introducing themselves as Caspar, Balthasar and Melchior they write the Blessing on the doorpost. This is organized through the Parishes. |

Oooo, thanks for applying this idea for me. Now I can see it better in the large context. This could be wonderful, and a unifying element if the kids were present at each event until Epiphany. Awesome visual of the seeking and the finding!

Stephanie, do they do this on Epiphany (6th) or the eve before?

I love this thread!
A few years ago I bought some very sweet 12 Days of Christmas ball ornaments from Crate and Barrel post-Christmas at a very good price and have planned to give them to the kids on Christmas with some kind of activity attached. This would be part of their Christmas gifts. I may actually do it this year. :)
We normally go bowling one or two days after Christmas, so that would be one.
I was thinking of things that we have normally done before Christmas, but moving them to after Christmas.
Driving to great Christmas light displays with hot chocolate afterward.
Visiting a large display of Nativity scenes belonging to a local priest.
Things like that.
Our parish has their Christmas party after Christmas, so that could be one.
Maybe a hike.
Nothing too costly, but planned with a little treat or something special.
I will come back and read through everything. I love the idea of tying these 'gifts' to the feast and Holy Days.
Awesome!!

Mary, I must have missed this earlier.
The Parish has 3 or 4 days around Epiphany to do this. There is no way it could be done in 1. Epiphany is always celebrated on the 6th here, so the "Star Singers" (Sternsinger) go out on the few days before or the day after the Feast. In our town, the groups knock on every single door in their respective Parishes. Everything is close enough that they walk everywhere. There is a car driving 1 group out to all the farms in our area. We are fortunate in our Parish to still get many groups of children together, so that each group works one full day. Friends who belong to a Parish in a city center aren't so fortunate and their group did 3 days straight! Let me tell you, it is exhausting walking around in the cold and possibly snow in a king's costume ALL DAY LONG!
