Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please do start a new thread, because I am a failure and understanding the best ways to store veggies long term.

I saw this on Pinterest the other day and thought of the ideas on this thread and had to pin it to Our Lady's Loom, Larder and Laundry pinboard.

The picture taken is from a tutorial for using old tshirts to make reusable shopping bags. It looks so simple to do and these would be so easy to roll up and stow in the car/van until needed.

Jen...that link is to "where to find organic seeds" which I find quite illuminating, but not exactly what I was expecting.

I have been using a combination of reusables and plastic and paper - we use the plastic bags for our garbage bags at home; paper for dry garbage; we have so little that actual gets recycled by a recycling company anyway, that I just don't bother (is that terrible????).

For fruits and vegetables, I make my own mesh and solid cotton bags. (I also sell these ones).

For our shopping bags, I have been slowly adding a new one every few weeks, so that they don't all wear out at once years down the road; and to minimize the time input ;) I've been wanting to post them on my website and on my Etsy site, but have not yet done it. I have two styles: "paper bag with handles style" (so a flat bottom) and "plastic bag with handles style" (so just like a plastic grocery sack).

I'm thinking of adding a tote variety too. We'll see.

My problems with the "inexpensive" ones available all over the place are few, but important to my heart; even if they last a LONG time (most don't), they:

are usually made in China or someplace where the maker is not being paid a fair wage

are made from non-natural materials (while I'm all over recycling and reusing things, and if I have to use plastic and polyester and such, I want it recycled --- I prefer items that are made from natural materials, period - then we solve the "what to do with all this plastic" issue (or at least minimize it), while reusing as much as possible that which is already in existence)).

come with logos and advertisements - so I'm purchasing their bag to advertise them (yet for my business, I have to pay people to advertise me) - I understand the concept, I just prefer few to no logos is all ***Personal Preference*** ;)

:)

Our co-op made those t-shirt bags- they are very easy.

Up here they charge for plastic bags as well. I still get them though- it just seems wierd to bring my cloth bags all the time and then have to buy a box of glad bags for the kitchen and bathroom garbages.

I still use alot of cloth bags though! I have definitely found the pure cloth ones to be way superior! The recycled pop bottle ones at all the grocery stores just don't wash up well in my experience.
