Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Jodie -- I know, I feel the same way. And I really have no problem handing out candy to teenagers -- they're still kids! But it was his call.

Those 40-year-olds, on the other hand . . . At least, my son said they looked 40, but then, he's 14, so who knows. Anyway, he gave them candy, too.

Oh, and we had, at the last minute, Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings (in a strangely Spartan get-up), and a girl ninja. It was a big sword kind of night around here.

For All Saints the homo sapiens sapiens son got conscripted into a play about St. Clare -- he played her father with appropriately villainous gusto. We were able to borrow some medieval-ish/Renaissance-ish costumes from the Belmont Abbey theatre, so he really looked the part. When he wasn't being St. Clare's father, he was St. Thomas More.

eta: I realize that sounds weird, since All Saints is today. Our huge parish party was Saturday night.

Last night I mentioned that sadly, no literary figures appeared on my doorstep. The lack of creativity was very sad.

Oh, I can probably top it all....we had older teen boys in drag..with lingerie on, and that was pretty much all they had on.....and teen girls dressed like the red light district, I kid you not. I was so when Lily opens the door in her sweet pink princess outfit to hand out candy and sees these girls looking down at her, barely dressed, barely covered....I was so stunned, I didn’t know what to say. I was actually just pulling my car into the drive as I watched this from several feet away, they were gone by the time I parked the car. There was just so much evil looking stuff, very dark....I doubt if we open our door next year. The first few minutes, though, had the cutest little guy as “The Man in the Yellow Hat”, with his baby brother in a simple monkey outfit....so sweet!!

It is interesting to look at the week spiritually, in light of all we, unfortunately, saw last night....asking for our Heavenly Friends’ intersession!!

One reason to be glad of the temperatures around here yesterday (it was snowing in the morning). All trick or treaters were well covered

We didn't have any too-outrageous costumes that I recall. This is a fairly conservative semi-rural area. The cutest was a baby ballerina -- she must have been maybe five months old, with tiny little pointe shoes (I have no idea how they stayed on). Obviously the Dum-Dum pops were not going to be for her . . . I hope, anyway.

Gladiator/Spartan/Aragorn and the girl ninja were my own kids -- the ninja had been planning to be a lion, but after being Saint Jerome's Lion for the All Saints party, she was tired of face paint. At least the black balaclava she wore kept her warm out there!
