Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Not really kid movies...but dh husband and I just watched:

That's ok- I really was looking for more grown-up type movies anyway.

I agree, Cinderella Man was really good-and I definitely don't care for boxing either.

More on the "twaddle, mindless" side of things, Madagascar really is hilarious. Aside from a couple of scenes that weren't necessary and thankfully, over the kid's heads, we really got a good laugh out of it.

I wondered how "walk the line" was- I'll have to check that out.

Mary G.-good luck with your move! Sure sounds hectic! I did enough of that growing up so I don't miss it. The movies should keep the kids occupied.

I just saw this thread. We recently watched an excellent old movie called "The Fighting Sullivans". It was about the life of the 5 brothers who all enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor, all died at sea. Because of their deaths, the military limited how many boys from one family could enlist during wartime. I don't know if that is still in effect or not.
The boys were all Catholic and their Catholic family life is warmly presented. The beginning of the movie shows the baptisms of each new Sullivan baby while mother and father watch proudly from the pew with their brood growing around them also watching the baptism of a new sibling.

The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio - very, very good, especially if you have read the book. Julieanne Moore was fantastic!

I had forgotten about that movie, Erica, and wouldn't have thought of looking for it at the video store if you hadn't mentioned it. I really enjoyed the book.

I watched Pride and Prejudice with the girls tonight. I had seen it in the movie theater before with dh, but this was their first time watching. It was fun to see how much they enjoyed it. I really love that movie. I found myself in tears during two touching scenes--even though I had seen them before!

The Quiet Man is one of our favorite movies. The Keys of the Kingdom is good, too. Probably more appropriate for 14 and up. I tend to prefer older movies.

Last night we watched The Namesake.

Here is the Netflix summary:

While he respects his immigrant parents (Irfan Khan and Tabu) and their decision to rear him in his United States birthplace, Gogol Ganguli (Kal Penn) is torn between Indian traditions and the modern Bostonian lifestyle. Jacinda Barrett and Zuleikha Robinson also star in director Mira Nair's thought-provoking coming-of-age drama, which explores first-generation Americans' delicate dance between culture and identity.

This made me think about the many families I know who are immigrants and the struggles they must face raising children in a foreign land. I really enjoyed this film, although some parts were a bit slow.
