Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last week at church I met up with a friend of mine in her mid-40's. I thought she looked different then (hadn't seen her all summer).

It turns out she had lost over 30! pounds since I saw her last May. She looks fabulous. I asked her her secret:

She said it all started during Lent, when she gave up sweet tea. She was a sweet tea addict (similar to peanut butter addiction). So, she gave up just that ONE THING to start and noticed that she was losing weight.

After Lent she did not go back to the sweet tea. She said she then started to exercise a little- mainly riding her bike around the block a few times when she can. Then she noticed that with even this small amount of exercise she was not as hungry and was able to eat smaller portions.

Fast forward six months, and she has lost 34 lbs! She is only about 5 ft 1,
and she said she feels so much better. She also said she has not given up any food besides the tea: "I still eat fried chicken and fried pork chops; just not every day".

Best of all: she has gone from a size 10 to a size 2!!!!

I was blown away- so inspired. She has several kids, is in her 40's, etc- like so many of us.

It made me start thinking of what my one "weak" area is that I can improve on. For me, that would be all the little snacking- bites here and there- that I do at the end of the day- during dinner prep and after the kids are in bed. I'm pretty sure I could lose a couple of pounds by doing as Angie suggested- not eating after 7.

Baby steps... I figure while I am decluttering my house, I can also declutter me
